What does one dimensional mean?

Report as
My answers support Susan G. Komen for the Cure® What's this?

Dimensionality is different from curvature. some of the previous answers were "flat" which means no curvature. But a two dimensional surface can be flat (a plain) or curved (a sphere). One dimensionality means it has only length and no width or hight. It can be a line, or a circle, or a Mobius strip, to mention just some famous examples. On a one dimensional manifold you can move in only one direction; you need just one coordinate to specify uniquely where you are on it.

Paper is flat but is not technically one dimensional. How scientific do you need to be on your definition?

If you'd like to follow up on this subject in a fun way, I highly recommend one of the best books ever written: Flatland by Edwin Abbott.
