What is the type of sleep disorder when you are awake odd hours & sleep odd & long hours?

my female friend has trouble falling asleep at night so she stays awake until she is tired, but when she falls asleep, she sleeps 12 hours or longer. Sometimes she stays awake for maybe almost 24 hours. She takes prescription medication, but that doesn't help her. I think she has been fighting her meds from a young age & that is why her body is immune to her staying awake long hours & her meds don't work for her.

It's not a disorder, it's just being not very smart about keeping a sensible sleep schedule. Your friend needs to go to bed the same time every night and listen to quiet music or read a magazine until she feels sleepy. No phone, no texts, no gaming, etc. starting an hour before bedtime. The brain needs some time to calm down. Also, she needs to get up at the same time every day. The first few days of this will be difficult, but her body and brain will get used to being on a schedule. Google "sleep hygiene" and you'll find all sorts of advice.

It could be bipolar disorder. The most common side affect is sleeping for days straight and then having tons of energy and not sleeping for days.
