Yes, they can if the religions events interfere with schoolwork/learning time. If you or your child is enrolled in a specific school, and you already were knowledgeable of the hours, then you cannot have religious events during school. However, if it is after school hours and after school is let out, then you can absolutely have religious events, and the school cannot interfere with them at all. Hope I helped :)
I don't think a church would schedule events for kids during school hours...at least mine wouldn't, but if it did ( say for something important to our beliefs) my children would certainly be taking time out of school for it! I don't believe public education could trump anything they could learn at church.
