Can you take a lighter through an airport or is it bad?

going from Cali to Florida

I travel all over the world. In the US you are allowed to bring ONE lighter on board with you. You are not allowed to bring matches. If you need more than 1 lighter stow them in your checked baggage. Happy flying!

The best option is to take a book of matches on your person and throw them away before you go through security. Make sure you pack some in your checked in luggage for the trip home and a lighter, too, so you can grab a smoke after you land and grab your bag.

It is bad if they take and keep it.

My son flew from here in Tucson to Ca., two years ago and got off the plane in Ca., with 3 lighters. He said if they took 1 or 2 of them he would still have one. He was just lucky he didn't get in trouble for having 3 of them.

@BiggDaddyNelson: It's NEVER a good idea to take any flammables aboard a PRESSURIZED aircraft! Like LynnElou says;' use matches to smoke at the airport and toss them before you board. Don't put a lighter in your luggage either. Just resolve to use matches only if you're traveling by air and leave your prized Zippo at home!

They changed it about a year ago to where you could take a lighter on board but it's probably not that great of an idea since it's flammable and the plane is pressurized.
