I'm the king of the castle!

I'm the head chef in my kitchen. We just got a new chef, he knows more than me and he is a good cook (25 yrs opposed to my 9). I'm still trying to maintain my dominance of the staff but the crew are starting to recognize him as the source of leadership. Should I just let that happen?

Not neccessarily! Nickculp was there first! Just because someone else has more years experience, doesnt always make them better! Theres a reason (that we dont know about) why a chef with 25 yrs experience isnt head chef in a kitchen somewhere else already...... Nick deserves his chance too! :)

Respect from your staff is something that has to be earned. "maintain my dominance of the staff" seems a bit harsh in some way....Remain humble, and try to learn from the new chef! This could be a wonderful opportunity for you to increase your skills! If your staff sees you being humble, appreciative & open to learning from this new chef, it's more likely they will respect you more! Things always go better when everyone works together. If you appear to be intimidated or mad in any way about the new chef having more knowledge than you, it could backfire, & cause problems between you and your staff. I'd think you would rather have respect from your staff than be "dominant" of them. Just my opinion! Good luck!

Some times a formidable force is actually a friendly one. Perhaps you should just accept the changes and concern your self with your self.
