For the same reason that most choose to worship God, it's how you were raised. If your parents were agnostic or atheist chances are good that you will be as well If you're raised Jewish, Catholic, or Lutheran chances are very high that you'll stay with those beliefs. Some folks do research, the religions,& beliefs and change later on, but that's not a large segment of the populace
Because I can....and because some of the believers actually push me further away from trying to shove it down my throat,rudely...They seem to get to hostile and I can't be part of that! It's a shame too,I met a lot of great Christians on here and the rude ones make the "real" Christians look bad.
I was raised Catholic and when I was a kid I started asking things like "how did we all come from 2 ppl?" or "If Noah's ark was real why aren't there any kangaroos outside of Australia?" and many more. It got me thinking and by the time I was 13 I told my folks I didn't believe and ever since I have been free to understand how the world really works. Its great !
Why do you not believe in the flying spaghetti monster? Have you not been to the web site? They make a great case for it's existence. The reason I choose to believe not that there is a god is because I apply only workable data based in observable reality to my life. Imagine you are fighting someone with a sword and you 'believe' the god sword is coming from the left when they are swinging blade so it comes from the right: You block the invisible god sword and the victor of the fight stands over your decapitated corpse. This person beat you because they do not believe in unverifiable speculative data. Now why would I want to believe in the FSM or god again?
The American Civil Liberty Union has for decades pushed for separation of church and state claiming it to be in the constitution; this is a bold face lie perpetrated by a communistic group. Unfortunately the damage has been done they have succeeded in separating Christ from the public school system and now they want to remove Him from the public eyes; is it any wonder why people react the way they do. The Church has only a very few hours a week to get the message of salvation out while the A C L U and their likes have the rest of the time to stop the message and who do you think is winning. These are truly the final days before Jesus returns at the rate things are going I would not hesitate to say brothers and sisters we are loosing the battle: and people wonder why more people are not believing in Jesus: until the A C L U are stopped we will continue to loose. Pray we start winning real soon.
Two words: free will. Everyone has their own reasons for what they believe in. I'm athiest because of the hell I went through growing up. As a little girl I prayed for mommy to get better and stop hurting me. That never happened. Also, just the logic of it. A man living in a whale? Never made any sense. I'm sorry if it offends anyone, but it's what I believe in, and you can't tell me otherwise.
Modernity has brought many to the notion that the only things worthy of believing in must be able to be proven via the scientific method. God can't be, so they choose to elevate the absence of scientific data to the position of certainty. I'm personally glad postmodernity is taking us back to pre-modern ways of thinking.
My case for proving God is real is simple everyday we encounter invisible things that have been proven real, but somehow we do not question them. I think that many people do not WANT to believe in God because that makes it easier for them to do what they want and to make themselves their own God. If they say that they are their own God, did they however create themselves? What if you live your life as this, and one day you cme face to face with a higher being, what then for you?
I think something in their past has made them deny God. Anger, hurt, pain or loss of a loved one are often the culprits. They want God to be what they think He should be and deny His existence when He doesn't live up to their expectations. Just my educated opinion from the anger I read in their posts.
I do not choose to not believe. I just haven't been presented with compelling enough evidence to accept the supernatural as reality. And it's not for lack of trying. I went through the motions for most of my 60+ years attempting to convince myself that the supernatural exists. I really wanted it to exist. But I eventually had to come to grips with the fact that I was mistaking hope for belief. I wanted Santa Clause to exit, too, when I was young. Oh, how I wanted him to exist! But I never chose NOT to believe in Santa Clause. It was a natural process like many things in life. We make life decisions based on our current interpretation of reality. If, after reading this, you are still unconvinced that I did not choose belief in God, then that is due to my inability to explain myself more clearly.
PRIDE. When we sin, we are essentially saying to God, "I don't need you. I'm doing things my way." It is having a high opinion of ones own dignity, importance, views, merits, ideas, life, etc. And "high" in this sense, doesn't always have to mean elevating, but can mean lowering others around you. For instance, self-pity is a form of pride because you're focusing primarily on yourself. You're not elevating yourself to being king of the world, but you're lowering anyone else's feelings or time-value or etc. in order that you stand out from everyone else and they take notice of you. One big reason for me deciding I was not going to be a Christian was the whole "gays are an abomination" thing. I prefer not to be part of a religion that calls me an "abomination". Also, it just didn't seem right to me. I don't think there is one big god who judges everyone. I'm Kemetic (ancient Egyptian religion), and you're judged not by what religion you followed, but what you did in your life. The last time I interacted with the church was when I went to a service camp in Pittsburg.
A lot of times something will happen in there life that they don't understand and blame God,I know because I did myself for years, when we should be blaming Satan and his demons. For others It's easier,no rules to follow, you can just make your own,Sin of pride, thinking they are above God,lawless. For only a fool has said in his heart there is no God.
