Can a world government that fairly represents all peoples and cultures ever exist?

The world seems split into factions over metaphysical and ethical questions; can we learn to work together for the good of all concerned?

This comment was supposed to be in response to BillNorrick. Sorry for any confusion. I'm a Newbie. First of all, I want to commend you on sharing your views on a topic that's very touchy for some people. What you speak of fits the lovely ideal of a Utopian society where everyone is treated the same, is of the same economic status & wants for nothing. This idea is not new & has been around for thousands of years. Libraries are stocked with books based on this premise. The problem is the world government you speak of is at best socialistic & at worst communistic. I know, I lived through it as a kid into my 20s. You'll know it as the "Cold War". Communist Russia initially began with ideas much like yours, but unfortunately, people being people, it turned into a radically different way of life. You mentioned different cultures coming together as One community, but what you didn't spend much time on was Religion. And, herein lies the rub. As long as there different religions (atheists, too), we will never have a One World government. This would require billions of people to change or abandon their Faith. More wars have been fought "In The Name of God" than greed or politics. I bet if you took a survey, a lot more people than not would say they would literally Die for their God & Faith than change or give it up. Religion does not stand alone. It comes with political, cultural & blood ties that are as old as mankind itself. However, the world always needs new ideas (or revamped ones), philosophers & young people to keep us moving into the future. I enjoyed reading about your ideas. :)

I envision a future where religions still exist but the fundamentalist approach falls by the wayside as people recognize the central tenant of 'loving thy neighbor' which is present in all religions (Islam too!).

And I don't see why a fair world government requires that "everyone is treated the same, is of the same economic status, and wants for nothing." Why do you think it does?

I agree with you SpringChick. I did take religions in account And As Jams had commented a mutual respect among religions and their beliefs must be in place.
When I said everything that is in existence would we remain and all foundations, industries, manufacturers, builders etc. would still be operational and luxuries would be awarded to those who Excel in the community. And It Is the Word that creates The Fear that drives A War. We all have to come to commitment to respect and love thy neighbor. As far as Russia and communism at that time they could not produce enough basic needs for their people. So there were lines and chaos. But with all the production that we can produce now with technology we will never run out of toilet paper, food, transportation, fuels, building materials, etc. etc. and we could stockpile for the event unseen. But I believe through education and development and evolution that we will reach a point where anything is possible. Space travel, colonized nation of other planets, living for hundreds of years even in eternity. Religions and those who have faith in them. Must keep them within their faith and their belief structure within their circle. But humanities all to make gold should be to expand into the universe and be a flower not a thorn in that universe. Thank you so much SpringChick. For the opportunity to open another page of the dream to you.

Oops... Third Line from the Bottom;(not make gold) but Should Read; but humanity must, should expand into the universe and be a flower not they Thorne in that universe. The cost of everything stops development of everything if someone doesn't see a profit.

Hey Guys, I just logged on & saw your comments. Jamshabar, I'm a bit older than you, 51, so please forgive my posting error. For example: I just learned what Fanfiction was last week & it's been around forever, Lol! I want to thank you both for considering what I had to say. I applaud both of your desires to live in a loving peaceful world! There is NO NOBLER IDEA as far as I'm concerned. In my generation, John Lennon summed it up Perfectly in his legendary song, "Imagine". I'm sure you know it, but if you don't, listen to it & I'll bet you'll hear yourself in his lyrics. It's powerful. Powerful enough to become the anthem for his generation. Anyway, my views are based only on my 51 years of experience. As far as religions go, this is a Timeless issue. I'm not talking about the normal peace-loving person adapting to political change, but what would you do with opposing violent groups? When I was your age, we worried about communist Russia & her "sister" Cuba with Castro at the helm. My parents' generation fought the Nazis-The Third Reich. We're talking about a once small country that murdered millions of people & became a true World Threat under the tutelage of one man-Adolf Hitler! I'm NOT comparing your views to hitler. Yours are the exact opposite. Now, we're dealing with a violent group we know as Al Queida. They have absolutely NOTHING to do with the true Islamic Faith! This is a separate self-serving runaway faction. An insult to peace-loving Islams everywhere. I'm just pulling a few events out of history. Even our own country divided itself literally in half over a civil war. History is littered with these events. What I'm saying is that life is simple, but people complicate it. I belong to a Kiwanis club & we can't even get 15 people to agree on whether to get a coke or a pepsi machine in our clubhouse. For real, I'm not kidding you! So, I ask you, How do you propose to bring about change in world society? How do you see this actually happening? What plans or actions would take place to make your vision a reality? I love hearing people's hopes & dreams. I hope to hear back from you & hear your thoughts on this! No matter what, speak your mind & Never give up on your dreams & ideals. For it's the Dreamers that truly impact the world. Just my opinion... :)

There is a possibility that a world government could exist to represent all people and cultures. However, for this to happen, the world's representative would be required to come up with laws that will help in decision making on various issues.

Remove the monetary quotation out of any decision and you watch how common sense and the people come into play. Culture, history, societies, would be preserved

I got sad news for you, the world government already exists. The United Nations. They don't do a very good job.

I know about the UN, and you're right, it doesn't represent people and cultures fairly. What I'm asking is if you think there can be an organization in the future that does.
Report as
I sure hope so. The problem is that there is so much diversity. It will come down to a debate over individual rights and the common good. Once we can find that fine line between the two we may make some progress.
Report as
That should be called the world community not government. Governments and government leaders should be called community advisors. Nothing should pass without a complete agreement by all the people. The advisors the advisors would only explain what the think tank and developers would like to see come to pass. And you can be assured that monetary gain will have no party in their decisions. Hip hip hurrah!
Report as
PS. Like I said with our technology if we can vote for an American Idol by calling one 800 then we also can vote on community events the same way but one vote with our unique ID would count.

It can. But like anything in human society the old must leave and the new must be shown a better way. I wrote the Gates foundation a detailed letter on how to create a C society of needs not a society of greeds. Basically at our technological level we no longer need monetary compensation for services and products. Everything would be distributed evenly among the need of the individual or family education would be free for all mankind medical services would be free for all mankind everyone could get their needs granted just by being productive members of the community. It would take way too much to lay it all out here for you but give you a short rendition. Every industry service etc. etc. would continue to function employees would still continue to function. The only difference would be 20 people filling the position of one. Therefore everyone would be a productive member of the community or employed. Through the higher education and a bigger contribution to the community would be greater luxuries. So therefore the luxuries of the rich and famous would still be intact but they would be earned through education commitment to the people of their community etc. etc. that's in short

The bigger picture would break down each individual industry each individual's needs each individuals luxuries and how they acquire them. The only industry that would not be needed in that type of society would be insurances for when something breaks it will be fixed by the community members for example: a tree falls on your house(State Farm no longer has to be there). Joe's construction company which has been in business for 100 years would still be in business and they would fix your house and be supplied by the builder suppliers which have employees that make the building supplies. Each individual will continue to do whatever it is they were doing the difference is he will have five helpers now. Each company will supply each other with their needs to keep the wheels of progress moving forward. Education would be free and individuals will be rewarded by excelling in education. Every 10 years individuals over 18 will step up one level of social order to increase their luxuries until they retire. That way their retirement is in comfort and luxury. And everything will be free for anyone under the age of 18 or still in school.

The only thing that holds us back from reaching to the stars or creating anything of monumental proportions is the cost if there was no cost I believe nothing would stop us from reaching the stars. And we are going to have to soon. For overpopulation is a reality in the very near future. This is another big reason wars are created diseases are not cured.

The same thing with energy or any large projects like switching to renewable energies companies don't want to go the cost of switching. Take away the cost and we are limitless in our endeavors. And as I will die one day with my beliefs and my structure so shall others pass away and if we do not let our way of thinking continue afterward on and create a new mindset in the children of our future we can happen. Unless somebody takes drastic measure. Like a president or world leader to spearhead this. Just convince the greedy warmongers that their time has passed. They would live out the rest of their lives doing what they do living in their luxury but their children at the age of 18 must start over fresh there will be no inheritance there will be earned luxuries.

The only time this world will ever have a peaceful government is when the Prince of peace arrives.================================For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6, 7 KJV)=================================And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. (Revelation 11:15 KJV)

I believe that there will be a Messiah. And I believe that he was born to this Earth on September 21st. 1998 at 210 in the afternoon in a New York City hospital in room 210 and gifts were showered upon him on 21 December from a building In Prospects Cir., Brooklyn building number 210. Myself and several other witnesses were granted the honor to see this day.

And the prince of peace will represent all peoples and cultures fairly? It seems to me he may not represent those of other religions very well.

The problem of languages: we are divided by them.

The word is a very powerful thing. And all of these spiritual or religious literature discusses the fact That the Word Is the Power. I believe everyone on planet Earth should see or read "The Four Agreements" By Juan Miguel Ruiz. And the use this system whenever using the word. If you've never seen it or read it do so you will like it. Keep an Open Mind!
Report as
@pate, Do you think language is the source of the problem? I'd love to hear you expand that idea a bit.
Report as
Countries seem to hold together based in a shared language. Borders do not as much divide us, but language, culture, laws and a sense of loyalty or fealty. But language differences can be overcome.
Consider how Catholic Christians can unite over their faith across borders, even across class, race and culture. They have a shared fealty, a commitment, that is at the core. The leadership may speak Italian, but not the citizens of the heavenly city; it speaks the universal language of faith. They belong to one family, a family marked by commitment.
So which is more important, language or commitment? I think it is commitment, but we need a shared language to communicate and to get the commitment. But perhaps you think otherwise, and I would hear your thoughts.
