If Obama loves this country as he claims, why does he want to change it so radically?

Why would he want to change something he claims to love? Do you want to change people you claim to love? If so, then you don't know the meaning.
Report as
Why would anyone love this country? Because they love its traits. If Obama wants to change this country's traits, why would he love it?
Report as
You can love something and still want to improve upon it. In fact we generally take care of the things we love, fix them when they are broken or in need of repair. If your child is sick do you take him to the doctor or let him suffer in his illness until he dies? Wanting to keep this country the same as it was 100 years ago is a lovely thought, except that it is not possible. 100 years ago we did not have to worry about all of our jobs being shipped over seas, 100 years ago there were regulations on the way corporations did business and there was integrity on the part of corporations and business owners. 100 years ago people cared about their neighbors and wanted to see them healthy and happy rather than dying and suffering. Oh and 100 years ago you could trade a produce and meat from your farm to pay the doctor for delivering your child. Things change and the country needs to change with it.

I want to keep us "stuck" in the Constitution and yes it was followed a little better in the 1950's. But still better yet a hundred years ago. In a perfect world .. everyone would be happy, healthy and make their own choices. Problem is .. we are NOT perfect .. we really quite stupid...as a human race. We conquer and we destroy all the good things we've been given. The earth itself has been victimized .. and we keep pushing our limits and boundaries. The is no government that can stay the same .. because there is no one else to protect us from our own stupid selves.

Right or wrong, good or bad .. is irrelivant .. much the same as our justice system isn't 'just' .. it can't be. There are too many factors that dictate how to manage any stystem from a country, to a justice system or right down to our own individual homes. We all have different opinions .. and we are the first to complain when things aren't done our way .. it's not a matter of right and wrong at this scale .. it's just different.

Report as
There has been leaders in the past, who were better than others. Personally, I think they all went into this 'game' with good intentions ..problem is, no decision that has ever been made is determined by any one man's personal conviction. Not even a President's.

I doubt if there even exists, a man .. or woman .. who can run a singularly country trouble free or even remotely efficiently or effectively. There are too many "other's" involved that interfere and influence decisions made .. not to mention greed and 'politics' ..

I know I most certainly wouldn't want that job.

Well for one he is pushing socialism and class warfare. Opposite of things our country was founded on. You know "spread the wealth" and "tax the rich" kind of stuff.
Report as
Well spreading the wealth has been a doctrine of the democratic party for a long time since at least FDR. The class warfare is newer, but considering the power that has been given to the super rich, or 1%, by things like Citizens united vs the FEC it is a valid question. I mean who is going to represent the average joe on this issue? my 1 vote has little power against the millions spent by special interest groups.

Hi, Candybar.

Congress is all for Obama. Why would Obama love this country so much if he believes nothing we've done has worked out?

Also, in what way and in what year did things not work out in the USA?
Report as
Pretty sure what CandyBar meant is that it is not working now and has not been working for some time. This does not mean that the Constitution needs reform, however all of the deregulation that took place under President Regan, Clinton and Bush 1 & 2 has opened the market for corporations and companies to rip off the American public. And it isnt enough. Our jobs are going over seas and our pensions are going into the pockets of the Fortune 500. They wont rest until we are all impoverished and enslaved and Big Red and the likes are leading the parade that will turn us all into serfs.

Full power? They have not had a filibuster proof majority. Even when they were in "power" they did not have the super majority they needed to bypass the GOP.

Pretty much Marcus. I think he loves what this country has afforded him to do but he hates this country's history. He is a narcissist who believes he has come to save us from our terrible selfs. He has given rise to the Tea party (good) and the Occupy mob movement (not so good). His legacy will be that if divisiveness if not all out civil war.

Boo have you ever thought out this tax thing. If I was a millionaire and say I ran a company that makes lawn mowers and I have stock holders that have invested their money in my company. To get them to invest I had to promise to give them a % say 4% dividend on their money. Everything is going just great. Then I get hit with this tax so instead of my stock holders making 4% now I can only give them 3% . So what am I going to do? If they can't make 4% they will pull their money and I can't buy the steel to build my mowers. So what I'll do is raise the price of my mower to cover this additional expense. Then who loses out the end user. That means the cost of everything just went up.
Report as
Boo, if that first point of yours is talking about ObamaCare, please let me know. I have something to say.

About your point regarding rich people paying the same amount of taxes you do: you probably know you put that the wrong way. The rich pay more taxes than the middle class and below. Why? Because they decided to go through all the trouble to go through college and start a business, dealing with all the legal crap and who knows what else just so they can be taxed more. The only thing Obama has done with our money is made us more broke, anyway.
Report as
Boo you can find all those things you want so bad in other socialized countries. None of what you listed was ever in our founding. Yes we are different and as most would say, thank god we are. It has given the world some place on earth to come to and be free. What you are asking for is to be owned. Govt is the problem not the answer. When you grow up, start a family, get a job and start paying taxes you might feel differently about this big government you seem to desire.
Report as
Folks, please read the key word on taxes... I want the wealthy and the corps to pay *proportionately* the same that I do. Not more. But for GE, AT&T, etc to pay nothing or next to nothing while I pay taxes??? Not hardly. When did this strange hero worship of yours start?
Red, you've got to expand your vocabulary, not everything that you don't like is socialist.
As for getting a job, etc?
I am the small business owner that the GOP claims to represent. Trust me, they don't.
Yes, Marcus, I am talking about healthcare.
Report as
@Boo: I think we caught the key word. But it's only in the socialist mind that the rich pay the same amount of taxes as the middle class. I want flat taxes; I'm sure you know what that is. Also, I haven't heard of any companies getting away with paying little tax, but if they have, it's not like you, me, or anyone else but those specific companies are happy. Republicans do not worship rich people.

Regarding healthcare: do you know that currently, not being under ObamaCare, those who don't have health insurance get free healthcare which is paid by others through taxes? So they don't fall through the cracks. Also, did you know there was a statistical test done that showed that ObamaCare is going to make EXACTLY no difference in healthcare? That means we're all paying more taxes for no reason.
Report as
@marcus
There are a ton of fallacies in your answer. First off, there is nothing "socialist" in equitable taxes. If you believed that you wouldn't want a flat tax cause then we are all paying the same.
You're young, of course you don't know about corps paying little to no taxes but it has been going on for years and yes those companies are quite happy. Again, why should my small business be subsidizing major companies like that?
As for health care, you do realize that we are all paying for those who cannot/ will not pay for emergency room visits. Why are you okay with us subsidizing them but not okay with requiring everyone to pay what they can? And we do have people falling through the cracks, those who make too much to get emergency room care for free but not enough to afford health insurance, also honest enough to pay their debts. These are the people getting punished by the current system. Do you find it right that people can lose their houses due to medical bills?
There is a quote,
There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics. Statistics can be manipulated so you need to look at who conducted the study and see what axe they have to grind.
Please look at where we rank health wise, it is shameful.
Report as
@Boo (re. your 1st par.): "Equitable taxes" can mean many things. My idea of "equitable taxes" is flat taxes, the more capitalist idea. As you've said, your idea of "equitable taxes" is proportionate taxes, the more socialist idea.

(Re. your 2nd par.): What do you mean by "paying little or no taxes"? I need to know the story before having an opinion on it.

(Re. your 3rd par.): Yes, I realize we are all paying for those who cannot/will not pay for emergency room visits. In my opinion, that's the best way it can be. During ObamaCare, we may not pay FOR anything; half of us just pay. Regarding the issue about people who make too much to get emergency room care for free but too little to afford health insurance: of course I see that as a problem, but ObamaCare is not the answer.

(Re. the quote and last of your comment): How are statistics manipulated? And what do you mean by "Please look at where we rank health wise"?

Oh, by the way, I need to know who I'm talking to. You know I'm 16 year old male, what about you? I've had no clue so far.
Report as
Where do you get the idea proportionate taxes are socialist?
You prefer taxpayers paying for deadbeats and are against everybody paying what they can? Exactly what does "half of us just pay" mean?
In world ranking of health care we rank 37th, just above Slovenia and Cuba
Great for us, isn't it?
As for manipulating statistics as an example I recall hearing apparently conflicting claims about employment during a presidential election campaign a number of years ago. The challenger claimed that unemployment was up during the President's term in office. The President's campaigners said that employment was up! It turns out that both were true. The population had increased, and it turned out the number of people who were employed and the number of people who were unemployed had both increased.
You can spin statistics quite easily so check where they are coming from. As for who I am, I'm a 54 yr old married, mother of one, small business owner and community volunteer.

Socialism eventually leads to communism when you can't get equal work out of the people. The only difference is the killings, but those too shall come.

and boo.... I have had many more years than you to learn what Communism is. I do know what I am talking about. I have a relative that lived under it. I grew up under the fear of it. I watched and sometimes joined in while the hippies emulated it. It's bad and it all starts with socialistic ideals - that fail.
Now go discuss that with your Marxists teachers.
Report as
Communism and Socialism may not be completely similiar, however, socialism was(is) a fundemental part of communism and is considered a key tool in how communism operates and most importantly how it was discovered when proleteriat people would start a revolution in order to change a capitalistic form of rulership.
The only thing that separates communism from socialism is that in a communist regime the government/communists own everything and "equally" distribute it out amongst the public, whereas in a socialist point of view the public owns the means of production so therefore they equally distribute everything amongst the public.
However, Communism is still similar to socialism and this is evident when everything is distributed equally amongst public. Communism is EXTREME SOCIALISM.
Many people including Karl Marx were great teachers of socilalism. Karl Marx then later developed marxism which was:
"race towarads communism in stages...first stage was feudalism, then capitalism and socialism and the final stage communism".
Marx was a devout socialist and he identified unfair working patterns in Britain and Germany. He found that serfs/peasents were working for wealthy industrialists in a capitalistic environment and were gaining no reward for their work. Marx then persuaded them and started a revolution which overthrowed their masters. This was the beginnig of SOCIALISM.
From socialism developed communism. However communism was misused and the principles began to fail. Many communists became greedy and therefore people have terrible recollections of communism.
Finally, socialism is a key aspect is communism however many communists in the past century have disregarded socialism and have taken a capitalistic approach instead were the peasents work for the state/government.

The government is the answer to all the ills of this country. Since it is then show me a success amidst all the problems. Retoric won't cut it, the operative word is show (prove). Lets throw another trillion at the problem and evaluate the results

Report as
Vally, the republicans in congress haven't done anything because the current majority of congress is democratic.

Also, tell me why Bush's fault in the current problems of America and Obama's effort are fact instead of opinion?
Report as
By the way, Vally, I like your dog. Haha.

Apophis
Right on, Vally.
Report as
@marcus, recheck your facts on congress. And bush's blame in all this is factual. Two unfunded wars ( one misbegotten, the other ongoing) and a prescription drug plan that still isn't being paid for.
Nobody starts major wars without funding but he not only did that he cut taxes which put us deeper in debt. Check the figures for what it has cost us so far.
Report as
Congress sends us to war and the house allocates the spending. How is that Bush's fault?
Report as
You can keep your big powerful government.
I'll make mine FREEDOM.
I watch MSNBC. What's FOX? Unlike the zombies on the left I think for myself with common sense.

Fact: Obama was mentored by a communist as he stated in his own book.
Fact: Obama was raised in a foreign country. American values? Highly questionable.
Fact: under Obama we have had our credit rating lowered for the first time in history.
Fact: democrats have not passed a budget in 6 years. Squarely on their shoulders.
Fact: Obama's only experience is community organizing. No management skills. No economic skills. No business experience.
Fact: we know more about our Republicans nominee's past than we do about our current president's past.
Fact: under Obama food stamps has risen, SS disability payments have risen, unemployment among blacks has risen, costs have risen.
Fact: he has divided this country more than I have ever seen in my whole long life.
Fact: he is too far extreme left and this country has always been center-right.
Fact: his tax the rich rhetoric is against America's fundamental founding and is nothing more than class warfare.
Fact: he is endorsed by the communist party USA.
Fact: that last fact tells me all I need to know.
Report as
Great answer Vally. bigred you should check the definition of fact in the dictionary, because only two of those where 1/2 facts and the rest were just nonsense.
Report as
I'm not sure I can keep up with all your nonsense so let's go with two. He spent a part of his childhood in a foreign country. That is a far cry from "raised in a foreign country" and even if it wasn't, when was being less insular a problem?
Our credit downgrade? Blame that one on congress, it was even said at the time that this happened because the house and senate bicker like children instead of accomplishing anything. Not obamas problem or fault.
Report as
I think we got this window boarded-up. ;)

This is not the country I grew up in. The Divided States of America is not the United States of America. They are so severely divided because of Obama.

great point! Or Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, LBJ?

How could we know?

My point is, lots of great presidents have made drastic changes to this country, you just happen to not like this one.
Report as
Green!
Report as
FDR and LBJ are not good examples of great changes. Both have caused the mess we are in with their ushering in socialism.
Report as
@bigred, FDR social security and aiding the elderly, that's socialism to you? LBJ and the equal rights movement, if those are socialism then I say bring it. Politics is about compromise, just because something helps a majority of people and is managed by the government doesn't mean its a threat to our way of life as set in the constitution. Our founders said "We the people" not "Me a person"

Socialism in all forms is set up to fail. Just because you like what it brings does not mean it will not destroy what our country was founded on. As they say, the pilgrams did not come to America for free health care.... they came for freedom.

Because we still have a lot of problems. A wife can love her husband but still work hard to change his alcoholism or laziness.

A wife who must or tries to change her husband shouldn't have married him in the first place.
Report as
The Biblical portrait of an ideal helpmate is God always trying to change Israel for the better, pursuing Israel despite Israel's failure. You'll have to pardon me if I strive for a marriage based on Genesis 1-2 instead of telling my wife to never work to make me change for the better and to expect me to always be the same as I was on day 1.
Report as
A person can only change themselves. Your wife can encourage you to change but you must do the work. If she marries you with the expectation of changing you that is a marriage set up to fail.
Report as
Ok. Then back to the issue. A President who sees faults in our country should inspire the people who want to change to do so while allowing those of us who want to continue abusing the system, others, and ourselves continue to do so. Interesting metaphor you've developed.
Report as
The only change this country needs is to get rid of liberalism and it's cancerous affects on society.
Report as
Perhaps you don't realize that conservatives often abuse the meaning of the word liberal, as it means one who fights for freedom. I don't think you truly want to get rid of all the freedom fighters in this country, do you? What this country needs is all sides bringing a variety of opinions to the table who are committed to working together.

Hes not trying to change anything that will actually help this country..the only reasoning behind most of what he does is to get a vote..he has absolutely no record to run on and it shows severely. If the guy loves this country so much why wont he put his hand on his chest during his own national anthem?

Because he trying to ensure equal chances for success? Because he wants to see people be able to get medical attention without losing their home? Because he wants the Romney types to pay as much in taxes proportionately as I do? Because he doesn't believe in denying rights based on sexual orientation? Because he is trying to get along with other world leaders as part of the global economy instead of asserting our superiority? Because he wants to try diplomacy before starting another war? Because as a member of the UN he abides by the decisions instead of cowboying it alone?
Report as
Yup boo all progressive ideas that always backfire. Speaking of taxes, when will half this country start paying income taxes proportionately to what I pay and have some actual skin in the game? Instead they just vote for the ones that promise more of my money.
Report as
I'm all for that! Let's start with mitt. I pay 20%. He pays 13%

I will try to answer this question as though it is not just a partisan attack on the Prez. I believe that a president should never give up trying to prevent injustice to the poor, because many are helpless, or the middle-class, because they are the strong back of the economy. Wealthy people have many advantages to preserve and grow their wealth and Big business can hire lobbyists to use their influence to petition politicians. But the people who live from paycheck to paycheck are the ones who are most affected by bad policies, sometimes to the point of life or death, and because of bad policies since 1980 it is harder to advance from that position. Often the decisions made on behalf of big business are harmful to the environment, and the cost to the people who send their tax-payer money to boost that businesses' profits are schools that are closed, policemen and fire fighters that are let go, nutritional programs that are cancelled. That is where any president must step in and try to achieve balance, to preserve the greatest country in the world...it's what I expect from my president. I hope we will get 4 more years of it, and a democratic congress to help out.

Why are all you rednecks just wanting the President to fail? Is'nt this your country too? He is not trying to radically change anything. The country is already radical. He is just trying to help us live in it better. All I hear from Fox news flunkies is negative things about our President. Tell Congress to pass his jobs bill. He can't do anything until Congress wakes up and stop blocking everything he does so as not to help him. You people are so sick""""
