I think that in most cases, it is the ultimate act of a desperate person. In other cases, it is a way of getting in the last dig... kind of the ultimate "in your face" act. Some people do it out of sorrow, depression or other mental illness. Others do it to hurt those who love them. And the final group are the ones who "attempted" suicide in order to get attention... and to their great surprise and dismay, the "attempt" worked.
Not evil per se. I see intentional murder as "evil." Do I think taking ones own life is wrong? Yes! Selfish? Yes! But I also know that people that do it are in a great deal of pain, and not likely thinking rationally. They aren't thinking (or caring at that moment) about how their actions are going to basically destroy those that love them. I know you said you weren't, but DON'T!!! If you love anyone that loves you...DON'T!!
I think it's a very selfish and stupid thing to do. If you have the guts to put a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger there are bigger problems. Killing yourself makes you look weak no self esteem, I have no respect or pity for people that killed themselves.
Sometimes it will feel like the walls are closing on them and these people feel like they dont have anywhere or anyone to go to for help so they think this is an option but how can going somewhere you cant come back from and you dont know what lies ahead be better then a place full of opportunities and choices, there is always another way here you have control but when your gone you maybe in eternal pain with no "suicide button"
Suicide is a permanent solution for a temporary problem. With few exceptions, whatever the problem is, it will improve in time. I understand the desperation a person feels when suicide feels like the only option, but their are options.
Yes, when you consider what it does to those left behind. But, it's better than killing other people. Who wouldn't prefer that James Holmes just offed himself instead of shooting up a jam-packed movie theater?
There's no such thing as "evil." It's merely the way many people perceive things they neither like nor understand. It's not unlike saying California is in the "west" when explaining where a place is located.
It's not evil, it's just plain sad that anyone feels that they are that alone, lonely, depressed & worthless that's there's no reason to go on. Until anyone has been in that position, they have no right to speculate.
