Is it okay to occasionally use Nyquil to go to sleep?

I can't get to sleep for the life of me. I tried ZzzQuil and it does NOT work.. it's just hype and good advertising. so if I take Nyquil to get to sleep a couple nights a week, would that be harmful?

Not really a great idea... Nyquil has a lot of things in it you shouldn't take if you aren't sick, and taking it regularly a few times a week could cause problems. Try taking 2 regular Benedryl about 30 min before bed and see if that helps, Benedryl (diphenhydramine) tends to make most people sleepy. The ingredient in NyQuil that is making you sleepy is alcohol and that isn't good for you either really.

So benadryl for allergies has only the ingredient that makes you tired, there's nothing else in it? interesting, I'll try it. Thanks so much

The zzzzquil is the same thing as Benadryl and the main side effect is drowsiness. Using Nyquil to help you get to sleep is a form of drug abuse.... people have gotten addicted to it as well.
Have you ever tried taking Melatonin?? Its natural... Non habit forming and works really well.

melatonin only works if you have a melatonin deficiency, and you have to make sure your body knows when is night and day, as in spending time outside in sun. and you body can stop reacting to it once you have regained your healthy melatonin amount.

Yes it is perfectly safe for you to take Nyquil for occasional sleeplessness. The ingredient in Nyquil that actually makes you sleepy is Doxylamine succinate and yes there are long term side effects associated with it however there is with almost any medication.Furthermore studies have shown that the side effects of Melatonin are actually worse than doxylamine succinate. The most notable Melatonin side effects are Insananely vivid dreams(not in a good way),headaches, nausea, vomiting and a few studies found paranoia and hallucinations in people taking melatonin. Also for those of you who don't know Melatonin has been banned in a lot of countries,I don't know anywhere you can get it without a prescription in Europe. It is a naturally produced hormone just like Testosterone or Estrogen, supplement companies were able to produce it because it is found in very small traces in plant and animal foods.Thereby claiming it a natural substance and avoiding regulation by the FDA.Do not take the aforementioned information wrong,I am not really anti Melatonin I am making a point that if you were to talk to your physician he/she I doubt very seriously would take issue with you using Nyquil as an occasional sleep aid.I chose to answer this question because i am very well versed in this subject you see,I have an abnormally severe case of insomnia and have been to sleep clinics and met with neurologists.I can take something that would make the average human being comatose and go on a 5 mile run.So in conclusion I would like to apologize for the tangent I went on and say if it's for sleep not only have I tried it Ive researched it....Yes take Nyquil for occasional sleeplessness if it works for you!!
