Whats the difference between using several sheets of wood to make a longboard deck rather than carving it out of one?

When a longboard is carved from a single deck it is susceptible to breaking. However, when several sheets of wood are glued together it can withstand more pressure. In addition, the long board made from several sheets is flexible and it makes it more resistant to pressure.
