Actulally the Bible is "hearing". The hearing comes by the Word of God. And the "faith" comes by hearing the Word of God. Alot of people do say the same as your answer said. But the Bible itself isn't really faith. So, I could have commented before and haven't and it just happened to be in your comment area.

Read it and you'll notice a myriad of inaccuracies just in the first few chapters. It's a ridiculous tome full of lies and falsehoods. I would not trust much of what it says.

jjjjj13- If you google the mathematics of the Bible it does a better job of proving whether or not the book is true, than even fulfilled prophecy. If the Jews lose their homeland then the Bible isnt true, but dont take my word for it just google the mathematics of the Bible. Then reason.

When you read it with a closed heart you will not see the truth.

If you read already believing it all you won't see the truth.

jjjjj13- Instead of taking the easy way out and doubting everything theres another way to question the Bible, go to a Bible book store and get a book on the mathematics of the Bible. Your probably not really interested but take a chance, see if it's not the most interesting subject in the world.

You say a prayer and ask God to teach you, open the Bible up and let it do just that. The Bible itself tells you who wrote it and why it was written. And it will do what is says it will do for you.

We are brought up in a western society with a myriad of stories and fairy tales over centuries in Europe. It was a normal aspect of any story-telling to embellish any story over time. We apply this rationale when we consider your question. Fact is the Bible was written over 1500 years by 40 authors. It is more of a historical account than any form of story, although written in such a style. This has been backed up by multiple historians through time including Josephus and Eusebius (which would have both given account either at the time the Bible was still being written or soon after). No other publication in history has come under the scrutiny the Bible has and so, the most verified, even if it starts roughly 4000 years ago. Great question though- That's my brief answer.

The better question is how it was made up. Whether or not Luke's gospel is actual, chronological history is not even a question in the academic community. We know it was made up, as Luke tells us he has reordered the events in his prologue. So the question becomes how does his reordering give us insight to his overall message.

Whiteboyjosh-You can't get an educated answer to a question about the Bible from people who never read nor believe in the Bible. At least 1/3 of the Bible deals with prophesy and you will have to study the Bible and its prophecy's to see if it's true. Heres a couple of things to start with,Ancient Israel was driven out of their homeland because of sin 2000 years ago, but God promised to give the land back in the last days. In 1948 Israel became a nation again for the first time in 2000 years, Bible study is one of the most rewarding things you can do, theres plenty of small groups who study on a weekly basis, dont take anyones word for it, just do it and have some fun.

Report as
pious666- Is that it ? one example, do a little digging(Bible study) and read some of the thousands of examples of bible prophecys coming to pass. Better yet if Israel is drivin from their homeland the Bible isnt true, as the Bible predicts all Nations will be her enemy in the final battle, and then God himself will deliver her.I do wish you would come to the comment section with a little knowledge of the subject.

If you are asking was it written as fiction or non-fiction, it's always carried in the NON-fiction section of the library and bookstores. Considering its best-selling status (outsells most best sellers every year), at least a couple people think it's not fiction.

It was written by a number of men well after any of the facts it purports to have. It has been edited, re-edited, translated and re-translated according to various peoples beliefs and what was politically correct.
It contradicts itself in many places and has impossibilities happening on a regular basis.
I think it's like aesops fables.. Something to learn from but not necessarily believe in absolutely.

You have to take each book in the bible on its own. Some off the information is historic fact (some place's,event's, people etc..) and the wisdom of some of the teaching is good, just and helpful information to carry with you in your life. The problem arises when fantastic stories such as Noah's Ark taken literally and in its entirety, they are obvious interpretations of oral histories that once explained Tsunami events or the collapse of the Black sea land bridge after the end of the last ice age. So to say the bible is made up in a sense is true, however it contains good moral information, just be sure to have the wisdom to take the good from the fiction.

The Bible is quite different from any other world religions book because it has been written over a period of 1,600 years by over 40 different authors! Could you imagine asking 40 people to write a book about God? What do you suppose that God would look like? The answer I believe is this - you would get 40 different gods, because they have their origins in 40 different authors who have had to dream up the god that they are writing about.
This is evidence that the Bible is authentic as the Word of God. Why? Well you have to remember that the Bible has over 40 authors, most of whom lived at different times in history, from different social backgrounds and circumstances, yet all have written consistently about the character, nature and plans of God. (cont in comments)

Report as
Think of it logically, how on earth can 40 different authors (many of whom have never met each other) come up with an invented God whose character and purposes have not changed over such a vast period of time? Surely this would only be possible if the information came from ONE source. Now what might that source be? I believe it stands to reason that the source must have come from God himself, who alone is unchanging year after year, decade after decade, century after century. Hence the consistency of the plans, purposes and character of God as found in the Bible.

I have heard that avid followers of soap operas can tell if a soap gets a new scriptwriter because the scriptwriter ends up changing the character in the soap ever so slightly. This is because they have their own imagination and ideas to bring to that character. But this fact is certainly not reflected in the Bible - imagine it, how many human ideas and imaginations would need to be utterly consistent for 1,600 years - 40. Does that sound plausible? I don't think so. Once again I believe the source influencing those human writers was the eternal God himself. Indeed, that is what God says regarding the Bible. Consider the following passages of scripture:

2 Peter 1:20
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. 21:For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit...(NIV) http://www.woodlandschurch.org.uk/isthebiblemadeup.html

Your argument is unconvincing. Remember that many more books were written, and not accepted I to the canon, and that the canon (at least for christianity) was decided by a committee. Unsurprisingly, the committee chose to include in the canon the texts it liked in their doctrine and christology. What explains how "40 authors" could write consistently (which many strongly doubt, incidentally) is just a selection effect.
Report as
There is an important theological point that should not be missed. God has used His word for millennia for one primary purpose-to reveal Himself and communicate to mankind. Ultimately, the church councils did not decide if a book was Scripture; that was decided when the human author was chosen by God to write. In order to accomplish the end result, including the preservation of His Word through the centuries, God guided the early church councils in their recognition of the canon.

Erasmus, one of the leaders of the Reformation, declared that the Epistle to the Hebrews was not written by Paul, & he denied the inspiration of Second & Third John, and also of Revelation. Luther was of the same opinion. He declared James to be an epistle of straw, & denied inspiration of Revelations. Zwinglius rejected the book of Revelation, and even Calvin denied that Paul was the author of Hebrews.

All it takes for u to know that bible is made up is to read it with the same unbiase as u read any other book. Bible poisoned the fountains of learning and misdirected the energies of man. They are words to give power to the priest, the church and the religion. They are words made up to destroy reason & to make the human mind a slave.

I know Bible is made up because it tells us God is a murderer; that God killed, or caused to be killed, millions of innocent people. That God ordered, or approved of, the murder of civilians, of little children, of helpless old people, defenseless & pregnant women, prisoners of war, & even livestock. It tells us that God approved the instructions to soldiers to keep the virgins for themselves. I detest and deny such a book, that says such is the nature of God. The Bible slanders God, and therefore the Bible can't be the words from God but made up by the words of men -- of cruel, mean, heartless, small minded men.

True to their Bible the church slaughtered men, women and children whenever they could. Today history tells us one truth; that those who have murdered will also lie! And the bible is the byproduct of those made up lies.

Read about history, then you'll know that the bible is a collection of works by many authors, brought together by clerics of church. They, humans, decided what to include and what to reject in line with church doctrines, which they also decided on. It is absolutely 'made up' just like any other book ever written.

You have to pay attention to details in the Bible. If you do this, you will realize that the Bible is very authentic. The sixty-six books in the Bible were written over the course of thousands of years. Prophecies were made in many of these books that came true, exactly how they were written, hundreds, even thousands of years later, like the prophecy about Israel being scattered as a nation then being reunited. This reuniting would be unexpected, a phenomenon. In 1948 this prophecy came true. Israel wasn't a nation for hundreds of years. But in that year they were reunited, and everyone agreed that it was a political phenomenon. There are also over 300 prophecies made about the Messiah. Every one of these came true, hundreds of years later, during the course of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. The chances of this happening is like filling Texas three feet deep with quarters, painting one red, and sending a blind man in to get the red quarter. Too unlikely to consider, yet they all happened exactly as they were written. Even archaeology has proven much of Israel's history. I find the Bible to be very authentic.

Hope this helps - Zack

Reading the bible is like reading today's newspaper! 2 Timothy 3:1-5 said that in the last days (the times in which we live) there would be the behaviors in individuals as we see today. Jesus said at Matthew 24:3-14 the conditions that would exist in today's society.
Man can't even predict the weather right! If it was from man...how would he be able to predict the times in which we live so precisely?! It is definitely from God!

Too much of the information in the Bible is factual. Even if you are not a Christian there is so much that has been foretold and prophesied that one would have to really think and meditate on what the scriptures are saying:

1. Take note of Job 26:7 - the earth is round hanging on nothing
2. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 - outlines the traits that would be prevalent during the last days
3. Nation against Nation, Kingdom again Kingdom, earthquakes, food shortages - all
predicted in the "Bible" - how true - Matthew 24:6-14
4. Revelation 11:18 - Man ruining the earth - is it not true and yes - AlmighAlmightyill
bring to a ruin those ruining the earth.

Any topic of concern from financial matters to how to have successful relationships can all be found in the Bible.
