tonic water has quinine in it. which is good for leg cramps. banana a day is good too. also, if you get them at night, hang your leg off the side of your bed to restore blood flow. lastly, this is silly, but I swear it works, put a bar of soap under your fitted sheet near the bottom of your bed. for some bizarre reason, this stops leg cramps and Charlie Horses. :)
The "BEST" RELIEF I've found to get rid of leg cramps at night in my calves and feet is ... First, when you feel your muscles tightening get out of bed and walk around your bed a couple of times, then standing beside your bed bend over and put your head on the bed and feet on the floor wide apart and slowly...rock/stretch your calves from side to side. Then, you're ready for the "BEST" part: Sit on the floor with legs extended and hands on either side of your sitting position to hold your balance, ... one leg at a time alternate slapping your legs onto the floor for a count of 60 times. (I do this as hard as I am able without pain)...It massages my leg muscles and absolutely the pain goes away and I can go back to sleep. A little quinine tonic 8 - 16 oz. before bedtime helps, too. Eat a banana for potassium and drink 12 - 8 oz. glasses of water a day. (I found if I walk a mile or two before sleep I don't get any cramps during the night at all...) ! Good sleeping.... Hope this helps you?
