What exactly is a "dude". i once heard it was an elephants bottoms hair?

I've heard that before too, but according to Merriam Webster.com, dude is NOT a hair on an elephant's butt. It's a dandy (a man who dresses well), a city dweller or a guy or fellow.

A "Dude" is a cowboy. it was a slang used in the old west.
