Who first said "I paint what I see"?

I could have sworn it was Courbet, but maybe I was wrong...

According to what I've read, that saying was first said by Diego Rivera in a poem by E.B. White. The poem which was titled I Paint What I See was first published in the Magazine the New Yorker on May 20, 1933.
