Legal Question Regarding Credit Reports

My husband and his brother have the same initials and their SS#'s are one digit different. For YEARS they have tried to clear things this up with all 3 major reporting agencies. They continuously accuse them of being the same person. They have sent numerous notarized letters, copies of their ID's and SS cards, all repeatedly. to no avail. When they apply for car loans , etc the credit agencies are always tell the loan officers that it's a single person, a scammer, etc. Despite following all the protocol to fix the matter they are both being smeared. are there legal grounds to sue the agencies at this point?

They may have grounds to sue for defamation. They would have to prove that they suffered damages/harm as a direct consequence of the organization's actions and that the organizations expressly did so with full knowledge. You need to consult a lawyer for further aid though.
