he's 8 years old and it looks like he has an upper respiratory infection. we can't afford the vet and she loves this cat and I hate seeing her upset, like she thinks he's gonna die since we can't give him any care. any suggestions?

Do you have a vaporizer or humidifier? If not take it in the bathroom, turn on the shower to hot and sit there holding the cat. The steam will help it breathe better. If you have the vaporizer be sure not to put it over the steam directly but keep it real close. I hope it helps and gets better. Also, I used to give my cat a small dose of children's cough syrup. It helped it a lot!!

Thanks so much! My mom says she can hear congestion when he breathes. So that sounds like it should help. :)

Great! You're very welcome. Give it a tiny dose of decongestion syrup. Very small and do the vaporizer. I hope it helps:) tell your mom it'll be okay. Lemme know if it gets better. I'm a huge animal lover

You can put him in a rescue center like the ASPCA. I think they have a re-homing fee but atleast you know your cat is going to be in good hands :)

A cold usually takes care of itself. An upper respiratory infection is a fancy way to say a cold.

Call around to local vets. Some will set up payment plans, so your mom could get care for her cat and pay back the bill with a few dollars each month.

My vet sometimes gives me a free consultation if it's an emergency. Earn the money try doing things for people, sell clothes. Good luck!

Not much you can do besides making sure that the cat is cleaned (wiping the gook from its eyes and keeping its fur clean). Also, I would recommend instead of normal cat food, baby food (small gerber cans). This will help the cat keep eating even with a loss of appetite. Sorry to hear about this. I love cats. Poor lil dude..

Its not my cat, or my choice to take him to the vet. It's my moms. And she can't afford the vet, so.

If it is an upper respiratory infection, it's like a human cold! My cat had it but it went away by itself... My cat is 14 years old and he got rid of it in about 5 days it usually lasts up to 7-10 days in total! Hope your cat gets better! :)
