What guitar is best for a beginner? acoustic or electric

i just started last week and I've been using my neighbors I'm getting my own for my birthday should I get an acoustic or electric

Acoustic. If you start out on electric, your fingers wont callous as well which would make playing acoustic harder if you ever wanted to. Even if you like the electric sound better, it's not the best for practicing on because your fingers wont toughen up. A lot of bands actually practice with acoustic so that they can be their best when they perform on electric. Acoustic is always a wiser decision, ESPECIALLY for beginners.

IT depends on what you want to play. Electric has always held more appeal and the strings bend easier and the mistakes sound better distorted. Acoustic is great and fun and portable but it may limit some of the songs you learn. Look at where you want to be first, then where you are, then you can draw the map. What's your interest?
