Hey, I'm an ex gymnast and I wanna do a back handspring. But I havent done one in 8 months! Suggestions, encouragements, warnings? Thanks

I quit competitive gymnastics about 8 or 9 months ago, and I haven't done a back handspring since :/ I really miss doing them! However I'm scared that I've lost all my power and strength to do one. Has anyone else tried after they quit gymnastics and done a back handspring on some mats/grass? Even when I was doing elite gymnastics I never did one on the field at school or anything. I can do them in the pool and on a trampoline and everything, but I'm just scared I'll hurt my wrists or fall on my head. I'm only 13 by the way, and I was doing step 6 ish stuff (equivelent to level 5), and I got 3rd in my country last year for my level :) But I realised I no longer had a passion for gymnastics and it somply wasn't for me. Also my coach was a hard core bas**rd whose disregard for his gymnasts also made me want to quit. But lately, I've really missed doing back flips on the ground and doing back handsprings. Has anyone else been in this situation? Can annyone help?? Thank you ;) x

You should try lesser stunts before trying to do the backhand spring. This will help you to build your confidence level and your level of fitness. Practice often and only do the backhand spring when you feel you are ready.
