Help me with this problem.

From Peter's salary of \$420, two fifths is spent on rent and three quarters of the remainder on living expenses. How much does he have left?

Report as

Hows he spend less than 200 on rent? He must live in an unheated, unairconditioned, metal box, in the hood. Geez.

He has 42 dollars left, btw.

maybe thats a week? lol
Report as
Oh yeah, thatd make sense. Still a cheap studio apartment in the boring part of town.
Report as

firstly, 420 divided by 5 is 84. 84 X 2 is 168. So take 168 from 420 = 252. 252 take 75% = 63. So the answer is 63 dollars.

Wait... I got 42...

How did I get this wrong? Explain how you got 42? I am not perfect at mathematics, but I still come to 63.
Report as
Im not either lol I though I got it wrong! We need a math guy to figure this out for us.

63 is correct
Report as

420*.4=168
420-168=252
252*.75= 189
252-189=63. EDIT: or a faster way is:
420*3/5. 420*.6=252
252*.25=63
\$63 is what is left.
