he might try to refuse your treatment, but just explain to him that you now need help in trying to stay sober, and that you're sorry.

No, he can't have you arrested. But he can refuse to give you any further prescriptions.

Living up to your name! He is obligated to call the cop shop! When it comes down to his license to practice medicine, or your a$$, guess who is going to loose!!

No you won't be in trouble, nor get busted. Just be honest, tell him, hey Doc. a while back I was having a few issues, started using Xanax, it got out of hand, before I knew it I was using more & more. If your clean tell him, tell him what things are going on now, how you changed, are handling things now, & apologize. Man we're just human, we all go through s***. There's not a soul alive that doesn't have a closet full of skeletons. People use booze & drugs to feel better period. And they only difference between anyone & a doctor is they had the money & ability to stick with the program. They're not geniuses, I've hung out with many & thought "who gave this clown a drivers license, let alone a medical license" & party-ha. When you can get your hands on any drug-hmm If the doc gives you grief take it like a man

Look it you needed it to party, make a little scratch, give to a bud, or your hooked on it-it's all the same. If you don't want to tell him don't, like I said, nobody here's perfect, I've done so many f***** up things in life I wouldn't know where to start to try and fix things

He may not call the cops, but he definitely can refuse you service. Its good you want to tell the truth about the lie. And if you really need the medication health wise, its a problem. How would he know if your telling the truth now.

He could refuse to see you anymore, or he could even make you sign a pain contract.
I'm confused though, Xanax is for anxiety.

Doctor/ patient confidentiality. Tell him you want to get clean, or what your doing to get clean. Hopefully he'll take pity on you.

Your welcome PartyBoi.

Glory, if he's a doctor not worried about the DEA coming after him he might get them. But the DEA is on us hard to follow the guidelines. If he truly suffers from anxiety, he should find a good Psychiatrist.

This is what would happen at our office, we would see you as a patient, if you were written a prescription for a controlled drug, we would run a Kasper report on you, this information would tell us the last time the medication you are asking for was filled by you, granted not all states participate yet. If the report shows your a doctor shopper, we then pick up the phone and call the Prescription Drug Diversion Unit, they can, and will come arrest you on the spot, I've seen it happen right in front of my eyes.
My doctor will not put his Medical License on the line for anyone. You might not get caught right away, but it's only a matter of time, because most all the big pharmacies like Walgreens, CVS, RiteAide are universal and their computers talk to each other and track prescriptions. Oh, and by the way, it's a felony when you get caught.

Very interesting. I like learning new things! One thing about Xanax is the seriousness of the withdrawals-which can cause seizures a d even death. I wonder what happens in a case like this and someone needs help. Do they go to the ER so they can be watched for the withdrawal symptoms and treat them? Not very many people in this situation have insurance to go to a rehab facility for help. What would someone do? I was just courious.
Report as
Sincerity, from what I've seen, if you take this medication as prescribed and do not go over the directed amount you shouldn't have serious withdraws like the people that abuse it. I'm not saying the normal person wouldn't feel bad for 48 hours, but should be fine after this. The problem is that this drug has such the potential for abuse and it's the drug choice of most addicts along with pain killers, that many doctors are reluctant to prescribe them. Now we are required to justify the reason we are prescribing pain medications by x-rays and MRI, if the tests come back normal we usually send them to pain management. It doesn't mean they aren't in pain, it only means we can't prove it.
There are too many others to offer

That's good. My brother got mercer's in his leg and had to get it amputated above the knee 5 years ago. He was on Xanax , our mother had dies suddenly. For some reason the Xanax medication wasn't given to the doctors and 4-5 days after his surgery he had a seizure while I was there and then he coded. I was the one who figured out it was the Xanax he had not been given and the doctors said I was right. So I've always wondered what someone would do if they needed help to get off and they had no options available to them after witnessing that horrible incident with my brother. He is a big guy so his dosage could have been higher than most. I never knew what his dosage was-just that they had abruptly stopped it in the hospital when he entered. He wasclose to dying before his keg was removed too so I'm sure they were just concentrating on keeping him alive.
Report as
Wow, that's terrible, I hope he's doing okay now.

you can have withdrawals even if you don't abuse your meds. just because you don't abuse doesn't mean your immune to withdrawal.
Report as
That is what I'm trying to say. You WILL have withdrawals even if you aren't abusing Xanax. Its a well known fact-even doctors realize this which is why you can't go over the prescribed dosage so when it's time for the next refill, you're not in big physical trouble. This is true. I saw it first hand with my brother.
Report as
Yes this is true, but withdraws are not as severe if your taking them the way that they are prescribed. But still can be bad, everyones different.
