And I've done it 5 hours a day 6 days a week. Its not easy :) Why do you think its easy, though?

Because they don't maintain proper posture or form. They think that if they plod along on a horse and manage to keep their seat, they're "riding". Not true. Good riding takes a lot of work. Balance, posture, form, leg work, reining... all are crucial to the health and wellbeing of the rider and the horse.

Perfectly trained kids horses, right?
Report as
U know I would think that something u've grown up doing would be
easier, because at that point it's like second nature...ur actions would, at some point, become unconscience and automatic.. Like me riding a bike, an activity that at one time seemed impossible, and my son is still trying to master...
Report as
Actually there is a HUGE difference between going along for the ride and actually riding.
Report as
^^ Truth. I've ridden my ENTIRE life. I know:) haha
Report as
I didn't mean that as a contradiction I was agreeing with ur point. And, yeah, there is a huge difference cuz one means to just do as others are doing without u caring to have any real input on the given situation, and the other means to actually be in or on something that moves....

You tell me its easy, that it takes no skill. You think we just sit there, right? You say we aren't athletes, that its just a silly hobby, right? Well, I ask you, have you ever trusted something SO unpredictable, with a mind of its own? Have you ever fallen from 10 feet up, while going 35 mph and just hopped back in the saddle? Have you ever jumped something taller than you? Have you ever performed an intricate dance with an animal that doesnt speak our own language? Have you ever ran 40 mph and slid to a halt in 2 seconds or less? Or attempted a handstand on a moving creature? Before you underestimate us, think to yourself: Do you understand the delicate bond, that is our only lifeline? Have you ever had a team mate TEN TIME YOUR SIZE? Have you ever practiced 5 hours a day 6 days a week? Have you ever trusted your life with a 1400 pound animal? Have you ever RISKED your LIFE, For your sport?
Report as
I never owned a horse and haven't been on a horse for 20 years. I could go ride tomorrow. That's how easy it is.
Report as
I wouldn't ride a jumping horse. I wouldn't do any of that dancing stuff. A horse would be something I rude to get to where I wanted to go.
Report as
I've trusted my life with an elephant, so no I haven't trusted my life with a 1400 pound animal. My uncle was an elephant trainer at the Los Angeles zoo. I was the one under the front of the elephant when they do that squat down thing over people.
Report as
Oh, so you're talking about like.. kids horses:)

Lol. Or them miniature horses. LMAO.

because they just get on and have the horse walk around for a bit. if they were having the horse canter of jump over things, then maybe they'd change their mind

Are u referring to fellow riders or people who have never rode. I mean isnt that the whole point? Because if someone sees someone else doing something they're trained to do and they're doing correctly, then is should look easy, even if u know it isn't....

Did that make sense? It did in my head...z

Yes, it does and I agree. People have no idea how hard we have to train to do it perfect and make it look easy:)

I had a friend in college, who used to "break" horses. (They still call it that right?) And her mother was a jockey (yes, her mother :-p) and the both of them were about as muscular as the horses! So I'm thinking that any line of work/hobby that can contribute to that kind of muscle tone has got to be some straight up, hard core, sweat popping WORK....lol
Report as
And if you ask me horses are scary as Hell!
Report as
Yup:) See you are right, because I'm talking about REAL horses. Not kids horses who have never misbehaved in their lives. :) and yea, it takes a lot of muscle to work with 'em:)
Report as
Yeah just standing next to one makes me feel insignificant. These creatures could easily throw u or trample u if they so wish...

Anyone can sit a saddle but it takes skill to ride properly. Plus, people watch Tv and it looks easy to them. They just don't understand .

Possibly they have been doing it most of their lives so they are so used to it. That or they're some stupid, egotistic person who says that just to boast they can do it no-problem.

Okay, so besides getting saddle sore, what else is there to it? No seriously, I'm not being a smart alek, I really wanna know. I like westerns and stuff, and I live in a farm town where people ride horses in the country now and then. It looks fun. I think women ride horses more than men nowadays, I wonder why that is?

Everyone who doesn't ride for real ride old wise kids horses. Well, have you ever trusted something SO unpredictable, with a mind of its own? Okay, that was great. But you didn't answer my question. You just asked me a bunch of questions. I guess I'll just have to go ride a horse for myself one of these days. I actually did when I was little, my dad had one. And yes I fell off, it was because he had another horse and my uncle was riding it, and the horses we were on decided to start racing, and without warning. It didn't take me long to lose my balance, and off I went. Guess I better get back on that horse if I want an answer to my question.

Because people don't understand the difference between being carried by the horse and actually riding.
The only other activity that requires you to do different things at the same time with your hands and legs is drumming. Add to this your heels are your anchor do you have to keep your weight down in them. The horse responds to your seat, legs so you have to know when and how to touch them. Maintaining your balance with your legs and seat while jumping 4' or so, traveling rough terrain, rounding a barrel at 35 mph. Maintaining correct posture do as to keep the horse in balance. Using your legs and seat to extend or collect the horses gaits.
I have a standing offer to any PE teacher in my area. One free lesson and I guarantee I will have you begging for mercy.
One guy took me up on it and then the word got around...

It is easy. As long as the horse isn't wild and you trust each other, it's not hard, especially if it isn't your first time. You might feel like it's a bit bumpy, but it's fun and pretty easy.

There is nothing easy about real riding as opposed to just hanging on the horses mouth banging along.
That's like saying driving is easy because you've done bumper cars.
Report as
I'm not saying horse riding is the easiest thing out there. But seriously, it's not that hard either.
Report as
It's worth it too.
Report as
Proper riding burns more calories than any sport except swimming. What part of that screams easy?
Report as
But it's definitely fun!
My riders break a sweat even in winter, that's how hard they work.
Report as
Burning calories is hard?
Report as
Well, it's wroth it. Horses are the best.........and I still think it's not hard riding them.
Report as
Exercise burns calories. The harder the exercise, the more calories get burned.
Report as
Well, either way, horse riding is definitely fun!

Horse riding is SO fun haha:) horselover, do you compete?

Nope. Unfortunately, I don't have my own horse. :(
But I will get one soon. I just ride as a hobby sometimes.

Oh. Well come compete in my rodeo for me this Saturday and trust me hun, you'll be beggin' for mercy:)

people think its easy because they have a perfectly trained lazy horse. But for people like me I have a horse that thinks what ever he wants to and usually bucks and rears. It maybe just be easy for people who have a well tempered horse, but for people who don't its hard.

Helpful (1) Fun Thanks for voting Comments (1)

some people find it easier some people find it hard, it depends if you have balance, confidence and a good seat, it also depends on the horse, you can't really say whether horse riding easy unless you've ridden at least 5 different horses:)

its easy to get on a horse make it canter and get off, but knowing someone who has a farm and rides her horse every week there are accomplishments that are hard to do on a horse for example jumping a substantial amount of height is quite the challenge

yup like mucking there stalls, grooming them, one time me and her had to look through a huge field to find something that went on her injured horse's foot, getting up at six to feed them, walking them down a hill, scooping the poop around the stables and feeding them in the evening, every single day
Report as
And not to mention, Lunging my horse to keep him in shape at least once a day for an hour. Practically being yanked around by a 1,000 pound animal and they call it easy.
