cats carry diseases, don't feed it. they also have fleas and your house can become infected....

Dogs carry diseases, too. Heck, dogs are really the ones that come running up to you and get all over you.

By the way, diseases can't jump between a cat and a human. I certainly wouldn't want my cat sneezing on me or any of my food or water, but I sure as hell won't touch anything a dog has just drooled all over.

i take it u dont like animals or just cats wut ever my friend has thousands of streys all in her front yard and hasnt got rabies yet and guess what she feeds them
Report as
Now isn't that just selfish and self centered...not to mention completely inhumane. SHEESH!

You should never think twice about trying to help a starving abandoned animal. It's not it's fault for being left to fend for itself .. it was probably someone's pet and they totally abandoned it and left it to die a lonely agonizing death by starvation.

Good Grief! Get a heart!

Good Grief , get a clue ! Feral cats do not belong in the wild. They need to be trapped. Amen !

Amen to that too!

It's good that you want to feed it. My household feeds three or four stray cats every morning and night :) I'd say go buy some cat food but tuna is good

and tell her about how much fun it is when she gets scratched by the cat and needs rabbi shots..... duh

^ If you are really a "know-it-all" you'd know how to not get scratched by a cat.
Looks like you don't like cats. Let me explain how it is that I've never needed a rabies shot in my life, having been around cats for 20 years now: I know how to avoid the claws.
You're more likely to get bitten by a dog than a cat. Seriously, I got bit by a landlord's dog when I was trying to put him in the backyard since he wasn't allowed in the house without anyone being there and I needed to go to class. That dog is the first dog that ever bit me and it's been 3 years and I've been around a lot of dogs and have never been bitten since.

So, while I've helped out with cats and dogs, I've only truly been attacked by dogs. They all still come running to me for attention, though. That's why this morning when I saw a stray dog and didn't have my phone with me I didn't go near it for fear it would try to follow me and get injured.

They never scratch. They barely go near us actually, all they do is wait for the food.

i hav tons of stray cats around my house just feed them scraps every other day and catch the females and get them fixed

What, the males don't need to be fixed? Oh, sure. Let all the males keep screwing everything they can. It's the males AND females that should be fixed if you don't plan to breed them. Males are the ones that hump stuff anyways.

males cant have kittens though

not good for the balance of nature, please stop doing this.... smh

When we have a stray come by our house, we cut up lunch meat (ham, turkey, chicken, or what ever we have) and leave it outside by the edge of our lawn.( Our driveway goes through our lawn) Just make sure that the meat doesn't have any flavorings with it

Feeding a stray may sound like a wonderful gesture but consider this: any "wild" animal that gets fed will continue to stick around. If you aren't prepared to take care of this cat then it's best to let them be or better yet find out if any animal shelters will take more cats in your area. In this economy a lot of people have let go of their pets and most shelters are packed with cats which is why I say ask if they will take more because right now all the shelters in my area won't accept any more cats.

Strays have usually gotten adept at hunting for their own food, but when they find a free meal they'll want to stick around. I love cats and dogs but I won't feed a stray.

what if the stray is in a life or death situation
Report as
Then they need to seriously be taken to an emergency care place. No food can fix life-or-death without proper veterinary care.

Wild animals are one thing .. abandoned domestic pets are another matter entirely. It like all charitable gestures, they are a matter of personal choice and conviction.

Personally, I would never turn my back on a starving stray .. I would get off my cushy duff and help in any way I can .. have done .. and will continue to do it as long as I'm pumping air. I take it much farther than that .. I am also an avid supporter of our local shelters .. and go out of my way to help in any way I can.

I implore anyone reading .. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE .... DONATE YOUR TIME OR FUNDING (of any amount) TO YOUR LOCAL SHELTERS. It makes a difference!

feed it tuna until you get some catfood we have two or three strays that we feed every morning and if you feed them for a while and slowly begin to pet them they can become very friendly buut dont feed it can food its way to expensive just buy a big bag of dry cat food its a little more expensive than a box of can food but it lasts much longer

Tuna is always the best choice and a tasty treat .. at least for the meantime. Please Please Please .. either adopt it, find it a home..or bring it to your local pet/cat shelter. It deserves better than THIS. Don't just leave it out there.

i agree completely but can you please take it to a no kill shelter if you take it to a shelter
Report as
^ Obviously, but be aware not all of them are taking any more cats. See, I was at a time in my life last year when I was having to choose between keeping my cat and being homeless or giving her up and taking the only options which were no-cat places. I called every single no-kill shelters and they refused because they were full. I refused to take her to the pound because she didn't stand a chance of them not putting her down since the majority of people want dogs.
I ended up finding another place which allowed me to keep her.

You dont have to worry about it carrying diseases, or fleas, because give it a warm bath with flea shampoo and put a flea collar on, and its ok.You can feed a cat pretty much any kind of meat, because its protein and they are predators. Cats like tuna, chicken, bacon, roast beef, and no matter what kind of cat, where it is, or how old it is, It will LOVE beef jerky. it will drink milk, but not too much. And give it water.

Please, whatever you do, don't leave the poor thing out there alone. Take it to a shelter, give it shots, take it to a friend, or keep it..just don't leave it there to die.
