Is an excellent story which is told from the perspective of Death, the narrator, in war-torn Germany. Markus Zusak transports the reader back to this era with well developed characters and settings in which one can almost empathize with the fears and devastation of the times.
The idea of the novel is about a ten-year old girl named Liesel living a hard life in Nazi Germany at the time of the Holocaust. She happens to be the chief book thief in the novel being narrated by death and when her foster parents decide to help a young Jewish man hiding from the Nazi regime, the characters finally mature, grow and adjust to horrible and beautiful ways. It is an emotional and interesting novel. Check out http://www.shmoop.com/book-thief/summary.html.
