What's the point of Satan?

I mean, in Christian mythology, god is the one who destroyed two cities, not to mention flooded the whole world because he didn't like the people there. with such an evil and destructive god, what does Satan do? if he tries to lead us away from such an evil god, does that make him good?

(I'll ignore your foolish words)
Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" Mark 7:20, " And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man".21 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:23 All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.It is often told that Satan is to blame for the evil, destructive things that happened in the Bible. Today is no different. However, the Bible clearly states that man and his heart are to blame for all evil and wickedness. Let's put the blame squarely where it belongs - on us, as frail human beings. Our hearts need to be changed and that will happen as we place our faith and trust in the shed blood of Jesus. We need to repent for the evil we have caused and strive to live a life that is pleasing and glorifying to Jesus.

Much like the boogeyman, Satan was created to be a symbol as means to represent what were to happen if your were to betray or anger said "evil god".

Satan is everything that is evil, the enemy of God. When people refuse God, he is who they turn to. You can only go one way or the other. There is no "in-between". Some people can see God as evil, and I see why you're saying what you are saying. Yes, God flooded the Earth, but He did so because humans had become corrupted and sexually perverted. The same with Soddom and Gommorah. In case you didn't know, the biggest sin these two cities practiced was homosexuality. As with the people before the flood, they had become CORRUPT. And in both situations, God warned the people before He destroyed their sins. It was them who chose not to believe God or listen to Noah and whoever warned the cities that they needed to repent. (His name is slipping my mind right now.) 8-D God Bless

Then all the men of the city surrounded Lot's house and said, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." (NIV)
So, if the angels had been female, it would have been okay?

Godzchild. Where have you been these past few months? What a wonderful answer! And of course you see the signs of the times. That's why we Christians are getting excited! We heed the cries and warnings that God is giving us! My question is how long must we wait before the rescue. My heart cries out when even our president would not take a stand. Did I say that? I hope you see this before it gets erased! LOL! Just been on my mind for so long I could not contain it after your soul stirring answer. Now it's out! I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Good good answer. 100% green for you and with the Love of Christ I Bless you! Happy Day!

Thank You. And no, Integer. If the angels had been female it still would have been wrong. However, the Bible states that angels have no sex. They are neither male nor female. 8) God Bless.

Eh, I think God acted rough back then cause he had to compete for people's minds with all those tough old pagan gods. Satan I think is more of a metaphor than anything. As cool as it would be if he were evil incarnate and on an equal level with God and they eternally fought over the universe... but thats just my human brain that loves a good story lol

So you're not really a wanting an answer to your question, you're just creating your own forum so you can call someone else's god evil a couple times. That's an awesome way to turn people away from their beliefs, and towards your beliefs... by ridiculing and putting down their god. How's that working for you? Don't you have anything better to do? I'm guessing nothing, lonely guy.

Let's check your moral/ethical framework:
1. In World War Two, was the battle against Nazi Germany a battle of good versus evil? If not, was one side right or wrong?
2. Is it necessary to take up arms to oppose evil for any reason? If you oppose evil by force, does that make you evil?
3. Is your moral equivalency of Satan and God valid? Is one more interested in the good of man than the other? For example, if one wants to enslave man, and the other wants to love and reward man, are they moral equivalent entities?

God destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah bc of their wickedness & their refusal to repent bc of their possible influence.Satan is a fallen angel who decided he could run universe better than God.Bible says he went mad bc of his beauty. He wants to be worshipped as God.When the Anti Christ comes to power he'll be worshipped by all who reject Jesus Christ as savior from sin.In the end he's cast in the Lake of Fire as all are who don't accept forgiveness offered thru Jesus Christ.

The story of Lucifer was a fitting way to explain away evil. Listen, they say God is all-powerful, that He listens to prayers and that He wants you to be happy. But everyone, Christians and atheists alike, experience hard times equally. Completely equally. How do Christians explain this? Why it's Satan, messing with them! Satan provides an entity religious people can point to when something goes wrong. "See?" they say. "God still loves me and God's still in control. The fact that I lost my house to an evil bank that had record profits last year is just a feeble attempt by Satan to make me lose my faith."

How does lucifer "Explain away" evil though.. It transfers blame.. But never explains it away.. And sure .. I agree with you there's cracy Christians out there just like other crazy atheist or others they speak out of there you know what ...
Does that nullify God though ??
I am a big believer that Christians blame Satan for things he had nothing to do with... Does that negate satans existence..?? If that's your basis for claiming his non-existence your arguing not just on shaky ground but rather no ground at all.

Well, since Adam , "" before the fall"", had an extreme amount of freedom and latitude to do what he wanted to do it appears your conclusion is quite wrong.
Report as
Actually it doesn't appear that way at all, if you took the time to actually read the book of Genesis. Adam was created without sin. Your ignorance is shining brightly, just sayin'.
Report as
He didn't realize he was even naked until he ate of the forbidden fruit.

Looking back again at what you wrote... How does that make my conclusion quite wrong, again?

I appreciate your questions.. But pls hold the sarcasm.. I went to school for a long time to attain a degree in theology..
He was created perfect, without sin, not without freedom of choice..
He was charged to guard and keep the garden.. He could do whatever his heart desired EXCEPT eat of the tree of good and evil. With that said, I have a question... Why do you say he doesn't Have freedom of choice.??

Actually, statistically speaking, Christians are less likely to be victims of crimes of violence, are more likely to be successful in business, to have successful marriages, to have children that are successful, and a host of other small benefits. So though bad things happen to both, it's not completely equal. I do not attribute it to a supernatural intercession, but to the orderly lives that many Christians live.

Actually, when they take statistics of things like this, they leave previous bias out of the equation. Unlike....um, you, shiny. And half of all secular marriages end in divorce, and half of all devout marriages end in divorce. This is true for the states, by the way, I don't know if marriages end in divorce less in cultures where the ex-wives are stoned to death publicly. That might tick the numbers for devout divorces down a bit.

I said that without a Satan, there is no free will. Satan existed. I never said Adam had no free will. I said he was without sin.
Report as
My point is, without a bad, there is no point in good, as there is no bad to compare it to. If Adam didn't have the opportunity to choose to disobey God, that is, if there was no Satan to tempt him, does he actually have the free will to choose other than God? I apologize for the sarcasm, I guess I'm so used to these topics in threads that when you ended your comment with "it appears that you are quite wrong" I sensed a snarkiness to it that i admit might have not been there.
Report as
Think spangs point was the choive was there to make before adam or Satan.
Report as
Gab, how does that make sense? The choice was there for whom, if before Adam?
Report as
What is good or evil, if not something that relates to the well-being of sentient creatures? In this way, we can see that a supernatural sky deity is completely unnecessary, as is a red-skinned, fork-tailed devil, hoofing it in a fiery pit. Come on, guys, you know this fairy tale stuff is beneath the level of adult discourse.

Satan is an alternate choice. Without an alternate choice there could be no free will. There has to be a second choice. The choices are God or Not God (satan).

The satan is the prosecutor of the divine court, authorized by God to test people, according to the Old Testament, particularly Job.

first of all, God didn't flood the earth just bc he didnt like the ppl there, he did it bc they were all sinners. Noah and his family were the only righteous ppl left. now for ur question...Satan wasnt intended to b who he is today. he was like Gods right hand angel until he became greedy for power and tried to make himself like God. he got banished fron Heaven bc he tried to take over. hes the bad guy, i promise. he wants nothing more than to take us all to hell with him.
