What do you feel like after seeing the Chick-Fil-A protest?

Personally, I think it's ridiculous that people dressed up, built signs, and some people drove miles to the nearest Chick-Fil-A to buy everything they can just from same sex marriage to not be acceptable! Even though, I do love their ice cream sundaes and shakes.

Report as

i honestly do not support same sex marriage. if homosexuals can say they LIKE gay marriage, how come it is wrong when people who DON'T like same sex marriage. freedom of speech and opinion.and yes, some people DID blow it out of porportion, all you have to do is eat there. no costumes or signs required. it's not like it's the Vietnam war or anything.

If you don't like gay marriage, don't have one.
But the head of Chick-Fil-A is trying to prevent legal gay marriage in general. He is trying to deny rights to people based on their sexual orientation. That is what many people (including me) object to.

He knows I don't agree with it, but he also knows I love him like a son. He knows that I believe that what he does in his life is between him and GOD. Just as what I've done in my life is between me and GOD. So you can be anti gay marriage (I'm fine with civil unions), with out being homophobic.

It's all been blown way out of proportion. It's not like he said "I hate gays and refuse to serve them..". He was asked his opinion on gay marriage, and he gave his honest one. Personally I don't agree with him; I say do what makes you happy. But that's irrelevant.
Why people were shocked about an openly Christian's stance on the subject is beyond me.

Guys I'm gay and I could not care less. There are such bigger problems in this world than if 2 girls wanna kiss each other! Geeze, come on, if gays wanna get married, so what??? We should have all the right to be as miserable as straight people LOL! but it's really not a big deal, I dunno what the big fuss is all about, personally, if I truly live someone it doesn't take a sheet of paper to be married.

Supposedly gay people make up about 10% of the population, approx. The ratio of power & influence they have over the remaining 90%, re ever-growing tolerance & acceptance, thru others setting aside opposing thoughts & opinions, (& improving laws & gay rights) tells you that gay people are doing better than some might lead you to think. The same with Christianity. The faith is not dying away or being tossed aside due to opposing viewpoints. True Christians are not so easily swayed. Whether a person is gay or Chistian, nobody escapes this life not criticized or labeled with some unfair, unkind stereotype or treatment because of "who they are" or what they do. But, you get up, dust yourself off & go on, doing what you can to peacefully & tastefully show others you're not as bad as they might think. It's called "being civilized." What you don't do, 24/7, is throw yourself on the ground, kicking & screaming, throwing temper tantrums until people become so annoyed & irritated with you that they just give in to have some peace in their lives. This is not productive, purposeful protest, having it's time & place for reason & contemplation. These self-centered, "I'm offended! I'm insulted! I'm threatened!" social tantrums have become a form of blackmail & people are sick of it. These public arguments & fights are tiresome & eliminate any chance of genuine acceptance to develop, whatever your beliefs. We all know it so why keep clashing & forcing? Boredom? Media manipulation? IDK, something.

The last few days I have been on here defending chick-fil-a and the right to free speech. While I may not agree with the viewpoint of the CEO, I believe it's every Americans right to express their viewpoint. My conundrum is that while they have delicious chicken I don't want to give money to a company that uses it to promote hatred of a group of people, but maybe the local business owner of the franchise isn't as hateful, so I don't want to not support them. Thankfully the only one around is difficult and inconvenient to get to so my decision is pretty much made up for me

Totally agree w/ you, but not certain Chik F. is as venomous & hateful as they are being accused. Disagreement is not quite the same as promoting hatred - unless you have some kind of abnormal, mind controlling influence over the masses. (Their food is OK, but not THAT good.) But people are so paranoid these days that it's understandable, the confusion, fighting & overreactions. More worriesome than any marriage issues - why are so many people feeling threatened by others these days? Do people really believe the entire world, or majority of it, is going to go Christian, or gay, or whatever offends them?

They are making such a big deal out of it though, magine how offensive it is on all of the gay people, even though, I'm not one.

I also believe that we should not be against the Cathy's and chic-filet because of freedom of speech. The Cathy family are all strictly catholic which is against gay marrige and most strict Catholics are. Are the CEO/owner's opinions about gay marrige really going to keep you from eating here

I have no problem with chic filet . I don't eat fast food from anywhere. I would like the government to stay out if it. Let the customers decide. If enough of the customers don't like what the president of this company said, all they have to do is to not shop there. If a significant enough numbers do that they will go out if business. That's the way it's supposed to work!!!

The CEO of a major food chain has the same freedom of speech as everybody else. I prefer not to know the opinions of company owners and celebrities. If some Hollywood actor said he's for gay marriage I'd still say he has the freedom of speech and I have the freedom to politely disagree. And there's the problem, the left can not politely disagree with anything. If you disagree with them on anything you're labeled a "hater". Being for something doesn't mean you hate somebody else. Being pro-traditional marriage doesn't mean you hate gays. Enough with the political correctness, how can we have a dialog if you can't even express your opinion?

I feel sad for the human race, as we feel the need to oppress another section of society to make our selves feel better. Trueth be told I cried today to see hate and bigotry become main stream again in the USA. Let's just all go back to the 40s, 50s, and 60s again, where it's illegal to marry someone of a different skin color. It disgusts me!

Saddened. People have freedom of speech, no argument there. But a person's choice of words burn so much deeper than people think. I was quite content in not talking about it, but when you hear the ones in support of it say something derogatory toward gays as though they're complete animals, it's quite hard to swallow. Even if you want to say that his words weren't hate or bigotry... it sure did open the flood gates for those to raise their pitchforks and eat chicken.

I don't see why people are over-reacting. Why dies the owners opinion stop people from eating their food? Did he put gay people fingers in the chicken? Bits of declined marriage papers in the shakes? It's just an opinion. I would never do that a restaurant in the same situation. I do think he took the wrong side. Gay marriage should be legal.

If someone is in favor of polygamy, which the President of Chick-Fil-A said he is, that's his opinion, and I have no objection. If he is opposed to civil rights, freedom of speech, or anything else, that's his right, too. I can understand that people don't like having their beliefs publicly challenged, but I don't see how buying (or not buying) a sandwich makes the slightest difference - he's not going to change his mind because I don't buy his sandwiches, and he didn't come to his belief because a few bigots did buy his sandwiches, so it's all pretty stupid, to me.
