No The gold medal is made up of 92.5% silver and 1.34% gold, with the remainder copper (a minimum of 6 g of gold) and the silver medal is made up of 92.5% silver, with the remainder copper and the bronze medal is made up of 97.0% copper, 2.5% zinc and 0.5% tin

That's such a bummer if this planet's best humans only win fake stuff. :(

The medals are huge, and still have something like $600 worth of metal in them.
Report as
That's just what i heard! Thanks! :)

The medal is worth a fortune alone without being made of precious minerals. It's just practical, I guess. The minerals mined would be better spent elsewhere. :)
Report as
No, it's worth way more than that, my dad's silver bracelet is only mady of silver and hardly any gold, and it's worth almost $1000.00!!

No they are really only 8.67 karots of gold the rest is a little of silver and copper to give coloring.

Its made of silver in the inside and is covered by gold on the outside... the pure gold medals were last given in the 1990's Olympics.

If it was solid absolute pure gold it would be very bendable or malleable... So no not pure gold.. But is mixture of different metals

The gold medals have to be made out of at least 92.5 percent silver and covered in six grams of gold. The last Olympic games where medals made out of gold, 100%, were in 1912.
