Why would my doctor give me a urine drug test?

I've been seeing him every month for my prescription refills then last time I saw him he gave me a urine drug test.

Because they're making sure you're taking the medicine prescribed and like you should. Also seeing if you're using any street drugs. But they do this really for the first reason, a lot of people sell their pills. Almost doctors are doing this now. The DEA is enforcing this more than the dr. The doctor wishes to keep his license, plain and simple. I take many pain pills. Every 6 moths they check my levels

Lol. Yeah, I'm thinking the dr's are made to do this to all patients now. I've seen my Doc 7 years and recently took my first UA 3 months ago. Of course I passed lol. But he told me they've caught people who don't test with any of their meds in them so they get kicked out as a patient. And black flagged

To make sure you are taking the meds as prescribed. With the test, he can determine approx. how much of the drug is in your system. There could also be other reasons.

Some prescriptions can effect the liver and kidneys and they have to run tests to make sure everything is functioning correctly.

It's to see if they're abusing any street drug or even if their selling the pills. I take one every 6 months. My doctor told me the DEA just started this up a few months ago

I've smoked a tiny amount of pot. Will this get me in trouble?
Report as
It all depends on how much shows up. When u say a tiny bit what do you mean? A joint? A few tokes or a few bags? If its a joint or few tokes you'll be okay

A puff off a night. Not much at all.

Now some doctors will not treat you anymore if you fail a drug test. Now this isn't every doctor, but I have seen it happen.

Due to all the pill mills, the laws have changed, making it harder for people who really need pain medication. Due to the new laws, any doctor prescribing narcotics must perform up to 3 UAs on all patients every quarter of each year. It helps the doctor stay in business as he can legally prove his patients are only taking what the doctor prescribes. I saw my doctor forbid a patient from seeing him again because what he prescribed wasn't in her UA. She wasn't taking the pills & she was smoking pot. Now it takes forever to see the doctor.
