If you're desperate for a job, do whatcha havta do. I was a door to door sales person selling office supplies and receptionists can be mean! Being on the other side of the fence, being a receptionist, I'd let people tell me what they were selling b/c I knew they had to make a living. You havta have mega self confidence b/c getting turned down a lot can hurt your self esteem and I considered myself a strong person. Good luck to ya!
No. Very hard to do. My stepfather tried to sell Kirby Vacuums door to door a decade ago. Most people either didn't open the door or they were just straight up rude. Or ended with the line of "I can just go to WalMart or Best Buy". Please reconsider your career path.
I'd say try it if you need a job. Don't go into it expecting to make a fortune. My brother did this with knives years ago. The best sale he ever made was a friends mom who told him up front "I'm not buying anything, but I'll watch your presentation." She ended up buying over $200 worth of kitchen knives. He was so relaxed during the presentation because she tool all the pressure off. Also, try to imagine putting yourself in the potential buyer's shoes. What would make them want to invite you in for a demonstration? Or can you demonstrate outside to make them feel more comfortable? Maybe start off with: Do you LOVE your vacuum? Cuz, personally, mine was expensive and I don't love it. Address respiratory issues also. Alot of people have asthma and allergies today. If you can make their lives easier with a super HEPA filtered vac, you may get a sale. Also, practice your demonstration in front of your friends and their families. You'll get a lot of great feedback. It's essentially a stage performance, and you're aiming for the standing ovation at the end of the show. Best of luck.
