I used to babysit and word of mouth is how I got lots of clients/jobs. Even if you only have one family you work for, be sure to interact with the kids, not just watch tv or text friends while the kids are occupying themselves. Getting rave reviews from the parents often is because the kids love the time you spend with them doing fun things. Safety has to be a priority as well, so perhaps take a cpr course. Once the kids are in bed, tidy up the house; put away anything that was used while babysitting(you can maake a game out of it with the kids prior to bedtime as well), wash the dishes, don't eat all their food, and when the parents return, give them details of the day/night. Don't just say "Everything was fine."......be specific, such as "Johnny was really well behaved and helped clean up the toys; however, he tried to get out of brushing his teeth. I told him the sugar bugs would give him cavities and then he realized the importance and brushed his teeth.", etc......when the parents see that you are both fun and responsible, and the kids tell them the next day how much fun they had, you will get lots of referrals. That is what I did, and actuallt traveled to Greece and Italy with a family, went on a road trip with another to Canada and then to California for a summer as a nanny(age 15). Best of luck to you...just show that you genuinely like kids.
To get people to ask you to babysit, you need to show them that you are interested in taking care of kids like feeding or playing with them. Then, you can begin to ask the parents whether you can babysit for them when they are busy.

take a Red Cross certified babysitting course I think you have to be >12 years old and then print up business cards on the computer you can get magnet backs for them then your number is always on the fridge. Volunteer to babysit at church etc. for free then folks know you. Its really hard for someone to leave their children with strangers Good luck
you need to show the parents that you love kids and are responsible enough to babysit their kids when they go out or something. you should also tell them all the experience you have had a sitter. Hopefully they will ask you to babysit. :)
