Ok, my baby's turning 18 in 2 weeks, he's sweet, shy, doesn't like parties, he's very retro, he's like a child of the 70's! What is

something special I can get him? He has every video game system ever made & hundreds of games! He even has one of the big arcade games from the '80's so, no video game stuff! He has a phone! He's still working on his license! He's the unplanned child that's the love of my life! Any suggestions appreciated! Thank you!

Make it a mother son day. Take him out to pick his present, then go to lunch and a movie.

Yeah! We always go out to eat for his birthday! We do that for everyone's birthday! He won't pick a gift, he doesn't want to " waste" money! He doesn't get that it's not a waste to buy him something! It's not like we're broke! I told you, he's sweet! :-)

OH! Seriously sweet alert! Okay... let me reach into my childhood and try to remember the 70's. Lava lamps, beaded curtains, shag rugs... a man cave redo?

That was the first thing that came to mind... I've always wanted one myself! Btw, when is his b-day?

He's the best kid ever! Honor roll, IQ over 250! He just can't drive! He cracked the frame on my car already! Thank God for insurance! Any ideas on that?

Some guys are late-bloomers, driving wise. Maybe more time at Dave and Buster's in the driving games? Seriously, if he were here, I'd turn him loose in the wheat stubble with the tractor and disk chisel. But that's not really an option for you.

Thanks, Populargirl!

He'll drive for two weeks just fine, something minor will happen & he'll stop driving for months, then he drives fine again, it's a vicious circle. He's had drivers Ed but he was so nervous, she couldn't test him! She'll test him when he goes back to school! We've had all this free time and he's driven twice this summer, the first time is when he hurt my car! I keep telling him as long as he's ok, we've got plenty of insurance to take care of the car!
Report as
Exactly. But his nervousness is only going to make him more apt to crash. I know that when my ex would watch me on tractor or skidsteer or even ride in a vehicle with me, I would goof up invariably. Maybe if someone else in the family took him driving? Around here, we use the fairgrounds when the fair isn't in town for driving practice. There's plenty of room, rarely another car, and lots of "road" to practice on. And my b-day is the 15th! Leos tend to be perfectionists... so he's probably really beating himself up over not being a perfect driver.

He wants an old van or a moffia car, one of the old Lincoln's, he likes mustangs too! I can't really get him a car right now but I let him drive my love, my 2009 Dodge Challenger that my hubby got me for Christmas 2008! It's almost paid off, then we'll get him a nice car!

Does he like music? Would he like an acoustic guitar with some guitar lessons? They have a Bob Dylan songbook with all his songs with the music for order on Amazon.com.

Aside from the car, how about tickets to a concert?? Day at an amusement park? Good old fashioned CASH! 18 though is a big step, personally I'd still give him a party, you're only 18 once, when he looks back years later he should have a great memory.

Lol! He's too worried about his future to worry about girls! I've talked to him about it! He wants to wait until he's out of high school! Also he's so shy but he's nice looking! He could be a quarterback if he wanted to! When he was 2, doc said by 18 he'll be 6 ft and 250 lbs and he is!
