There's a storm going on where I am can't sleep I'm wondering why I see really bright lightning strikes and hear no thunder?

an the thunder sometimes is very faint in sound

For each second from the flash to the bang is 1 mile - that's how far the storm is from u - roughly "
ps- if u can hear thunder
you are close enuff to the storm to be struck by lightning

Ya I'm in Iowa it was @ like 2 in the morning my cat was adopted from petsmart I dunno what she is but she's black and looks like that

distance i would guess... sometimes while the light reaches you the sound does not

light goes about 7000000 mph, sound is at 768 mph. the sound has long dissipated, but the lightning is still clear in the sky
