If it is a new motor you should change the oil in your 2007 Mini Cooper after 15,000 miles. In addition, you should change the oil after every 10,000 following the first change.

Unless you are using the highest grade synthetics with additives, Your oil will have completely "broken-down" by this point and will not protect moving components.

Total failure.

Seeing as how you have invested money in this vehicle with an expired warranty, I would be conscientious of going too long between maintenance and servicing. With a brand new engine, you'll want to watch it closely for shavings in the oil and other fluids mixing with it. On a regular basis, mechanics say every 3 months or 3,000 miles which ever occurs first. That is not to say that your car won't be fine if you do it half that often as long as its the proper grade of oil and it doesn't overheat. To be safe, stick with the proper lube thickness or viscosity and pick an interval and stick with it.

I'd go with every 5-6k at most. Check oil often an if it looks coal black it's time for a change.

You should change the oil and filter 150 miles after initial startup on the new engine. Then use a good quality oil and change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles.
