Okay, my ancient cronies... another question just brought this one to mind...

How many of you remember Captain Kangaroo? It was only the longest running kids' show ever... from 1955 to 1984. So even if you admit remembering it, you could ostensibly still only be in your late 20's... ahem, cough, cough... Come on, 'fess up!

It's curious how we all remember the ping pong balls & better still that we all felt bad about whoever had to pick up all of them! And yes, knowing the answer to this question did leave me feeling ancient!

When he started it was just him and Mr Green jeans to instruct about environment and pets. The other characters were introduced later. BOB KEESHAN WAS A HERO IN WWII AS WAS MR ROGERS AFTER VIETNAM WAR.

I remember the show but I thought it was boring so I didn't watch it much. I don't even know what you are talking about with the ping pong balls. Maybe I'm more ancient than the other cronies. I sort of remember Howdy Doodie. They tell me I liked that.

Hey FS yes clowns can be creepy and dolls and dummies that come to life too. I remember a couple of Twilight Zone episodes that played on that. There was a Rob Zombie movie with an evil clown too.

Absolutely. I think we were LUCKY to not have cartoons blasting at us 24/7. We appreciated them more, planned our entire week around them. And God help the person who tried to change our plans!

I was born in 1953. I knew Plato personally! I'm THAT old! Our family didn't have a t.v. till 1959 which didn't matter..we didn't have electricity till 1959. They sort of go hand in hand. Us brats watches captain kangaroo every morning. I don't remember ever missing that show. One of my jobs as a small brat was turning the antenna. One of my brothers would toss my onto the roof and I would climb higher and higher to the very top and slowly turn it till the black and white picture got clearer and clearer. If I saw a little kid today climbing around on a roof, I'd have to go change my underwear ;-)...

I loved Captain Kangaroo & Mr. GreenJeans! If you lived in Arizona around that time you were also lucky enough to be able to watch "The Wallace & Ladmo Show"! It was the polar opposite of Capt. Kangaroo, with a lot of double entendre's & crazy characters inbetween cartoons. Loved that show!

I remember the captain and the rest of the gang. The lawn darts, no air condition , the banana seat on my bike. Three channels on the tv, and would have to get up to change it. I remember a country divided by war. Boy, how time flies.

It seems so simple now, doesn't it? But back then, wow... I remember being terrified that Russia was going to blow us off the globe. Isn't it amazing that the human race didn't die out with our generation? Lawn darts, lead paint, and when did they decide bikes needed brakes, lol? We were tough... we let gravity and/or an immovable object stop us.
