What do you call it when certain tooth brushes hurt your gums

Irritating...use a softer brush for a more massaging effect.

Hard toothbrushes Although it sounds strange I would ask your dentist what would be a good tooth brush for you and how to brush up to your gums, I did and now I don't have that problem :)

It means you are using a toothbrush that is probably to stiff for your mouth. Try one that has softer bristles. Or, it could that you don't brush your teeth enough...
