if you take regular ground school for airplanes does that cover helicopters

I think that is true. When you take regular ground school for airplanes it covers helicopters, this is because the ground school focus on helicopter-specific and airplane-specific knowledge which are perfect for any pilots of all experience levels.

No. Flying a helicopter is way different then flying a plane.

No, rotary aircraft (helicopters) is completely different classes.
If you want to learn to fly helicopters look for a school that teaches that specifically.
