She probably has something going on with her...that's really stupid to say. Just ignore her. Surfing isn't a sin.

Your "friend" was totally out of line! She's basing her opinion on ignorance and narrow-mindedness. If there is a hell, being a surfer has nothing to do with whether you go there or not.
Say because you do a sport you're going to hell? That's just like saying going swimming in the ocean or skateboarding means you're going to hell. Tell her shes not your friend, because she obviously isn't if she says that.
Some people love to tell others that they are going to hell. What they do not realize is that while they are saying this, they are also sinning according to what their religion states is sinning and for that they are going to hell because in some religions all sins are weighted the same. -- Ignore this friend. She just sounds ignorant.
As a Christian, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you being a surfer. If you want to drop some knowledge on her: Leviticus states that wearing clothing woven of two different materials is a sin. Also, the Old and New Testament state that we are not to judge others, or we will be judged in the same fashion. Personally: Enjoy those waves!
How does you being a surfer make you go to hell that makes noooo sense at alll!! Obviously she has no idea what shes talking about!....you cant go to hell for doing what you love god gave you a choice to do what you want with yourlife as long as your not doing anything wrong your okay!....just tell her to shut up!! I don't get what makes all these people think they know who is going to heaven or hell. If they are real, no one on earth knows for sure where anyone will end up. Tell her she must think she knows what god knows, which would in itself be a sin, and she would be the one who goes to hell.

First off, Bethany Hamilton is a wonderful Christian, an awesome surfer, and an inspiring person.
Second, surfing is not a sin. There is no reference in the Holy Bible that surfing is a sin. Where did your friend get that nonsense? :/

The question really should be Are you a christian? Have you put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and have you asked him into your heart? The Bible says,"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Surfing will not send you to hell, but if you have not asked Jesus into your heart that will! Read the book of Romans it will expain more!
What she said is not true. Bethany Hamilton is a wonderful role model, especially because she's a Christian. :) I'm positive that you won't go to Hell just because you're a surfer. There's no where in the Bible that states surfing is a sin. Help your friend seek the truth. :)

What was her reasoning? I dont recall any mention of surfing, pro or con, in the bible. She may have meant because you are catholic, not because you are a surfer, because many non-catholics, myself included, see catholicism as very sacriligious and even borderline blasphemous for their worship of Mary and the saints and the way they have elevated a dead human woman to basically be Jesus equal complete with the belief she is herself (retroactively) product of a 'virgin' birth.
By saying you are going to hell, she has passed judgement on you which the bible forbids!
Ummm.... Perhaps she interprets the Levitical Law 100% literally and adds to it that surf boards can't be made of both synthetic and natural resources? I am quite familiar with almost all crazy Christian ideas as to what the Bible might mean, but I've never heard on related to surfing.

Ask her where in the bible it says that. Cause that's a really ludicrous idea! Does surfing bring you happiness? Does God want us to be happy? It's good excersise too, doesn't hurt anyone... Her response makes no sense!

Just because you surf doesn't mean you are going to hell! As long as you believe in God strongly and serve Him every day, you're fine. God tells us to take care of our bodies, and surfing gives you exercise :D
Ummmm- first and easiest is eliminate her dumb ass from your life....there are too many people to surround yourself with to waste your time on her. I'm so confused as to what her point is??? Funny thing is, I too surfed & the majority of surfers I grew up around were some of the coolest most peaceful people you could meet...when ur in the water with the suns rays shinin down on you, or at the break of dawn (which as a surfer you know the waves are the best ) when the world is still you feel closer to God than ever....so tell this little hater to step back & if she wants to learn how to surf to just do it and quit trying to stop you from it! Eliminate her trash ass....I only see bad things ahead with this HATER....she's jealous! Hang ten doll & go catch a wave!!!Peace!
Kindly ask her to point out just one verse in the Bible that says "surfers go to hell." There is NO such verse in there. I have no idea where she got that idea, but it's definitely not the right idea. When she says something like that, challenge her to back up that claim with Biblical evidence. If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then she is only partially right. If you have not, then you definitely are on a one-way ticket to hell - but not because you're a surfer, but for the same reason that she is/was, the same reason that I was, and the same reason every other person is/was. Because we are sinners, we have broken God's commandments and we deserve an eternal punishment for it. The surfer part is just nonsense - ignore it!

Ask her where that is in the Bible. Please let me know her answer. PS tell her also the Bible says "judge not lest you be judged". And as both a Christian and a friend she shouldn't judge you.
I agree with some of the comments that you can do better than to have her as a friend, but maybe she said that because she was having some issues of her own. Ask her if she's having any problems you could help her with before you ask her the Bible question.

some people will say and do whatever they can to bring you down because they are not happy with their own lives.. THis sounds like exactly that.. shes not happy with herself or how her life is going so shes attacking the people around her, and attacking the things those people love. you love surfing so shes doing everything she can to take that away from you to try and make you as miserable as she is.. just feel bad for her. no need for anger or getting bak, its just a cry for atention from someone who is hurting
You could have misinterpreted or your friend made a foolish statement. But the only way to heaven is through trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior.
