Attrition. Instead of taking and holding land, we just tried to win by the body count. We had a 10 to 1 kill ratio over them but what we should've done is invade the North, take land, hold it, take more, hold it, move on ... all the way to hanoi. That's how Patton would've done it. But they were afraid it would've started WW3.

The U.S. strategy was all about body counts. They literally counted how many enemy they killed and compared it to their losses.Spray and pray.

Overwhelming firepower on our side, lots of air strikes and bombs dropped.

Too bad Johnson thought it'd be a swell idea to drop those bombs in nothing too important. Thank God Nixon came along and ordered Operation Linebacker and Linebacker 2!

I don't agree with all of it,but i have family that are Vietnam vets and they have horror stories. They went through alot over there and here.God bless the vets.

Yes they did. I don't listen to anyone who hasn't been there or who doesn't have family that's been there.

I agree with the rest above. It goes to show how idiotic americans are, i would've taken strategic land and slowly advanced with all my troops leaving small detachments to hold territory while i sent mobile artillery along the main roads followed up by foot troops... Aussie tactics

Yet another war that didn't have to happen: the Secretary of State (under Nixon), one of the most evil humans to walk the earth, Henry Kissinger, sabotaged the Paris peace negotiations with the North Vietnamese while a powerful organ in our government staged the Gulf of Tonkin incident to precipitate our entry into the war (Americans were told it was the Red Menace - China - the same China that we now outsource a huge segment of American labor to because Chinese Communist labor is so cheap - furthering the singleminded goal of profits-before-people) - Kennedy was pulling the intelligence advisors out - and publicly announced that this was not yet another deadly battle in we should engage. War-profiteers that make the guns and bullets and armaments wanted the war, of course. Kennedy then ordered the splintering of the now all too powerful CIA - after they independently went to war with Castro down in Cuba - not bothering to tell the President - he denied them air cover and they got their axx'es whipped. He then ordered the military to assume control of covert intelligence operations - an unheard of disruption that would ultimately cost war profiteers significant losses. And then he was murdered - the investigations conducted by his enemies - the assassin murdered before he could talk (he was a covert ex Marine that was to take the fall as a lone gunman - a tourist's video of the assassination proves Kennedy was shot from alternate angles implying a conspiracy to kill him took place on his visit to Dallas. Oh yeah, his brain full of forensic clues - mysteriously disappeared as well) - his Texan VP reversed all of Kennedy's directives and green-lighted the covert actions in Vietnam that set the stage for the Gulf of Tonkin staged incident. War is no longer about principles or conquest or any of the multitude of reasons argued over for thousands of years - it is now all about profit - case in point: Iraq. President Eisenhower warned America of this new power hungry violent war-profiteering force in his farewell address before Kennedy was sworn in. How many wars will be precipitated by "Pearl Harbor" (Japanese sneak attack) type events - as clearly specified by former VP Cheney - who also happened to be the CEO of Halliburton - the company that got the contract to rebuild Iraq after W obliterated it based on an outright lie to the American people and our Congress. The war industry in America is always thirsty for new blood spilled in the name of ever increasing profits.

I already have one. But I apologize for getting on your nerves - I had several older friends have their heads blown off over that fraudulent war.
