I hope someone can offer me a reasonable explanation re: why the Bible has 66 books?

Why would God's word contain a # of books which is practically the same # as the mark of the beast? I'm pretty freaked out right now. I'm born again and know Jesus Christ.

Okay, the idea that 666 is the mark of the beast is wrong. It is simply a mistranslation that appears ONCE in Revelations. In critical Greek transcripts which precede the modern versions of the Bible, the number is actually 616. Man wrote the Bible, man translated the Bible, man is fallible. Period.

Nice Christian attitude. Have a BLESSED day.

@gwugluud. You really need to READ the Bible instead of just worrying about how many books are in it. FGT is right. Your attitude STINKS.

Clearly this person did not want an explanation. They wanted someone to hold their hand and tell them how brilliant they were for noticing that, how no one ever noticed that before, yada yada yada. I'm so glad no one did.

It's obvious when people pull out these obscure coincidences that they have no idea what try are talking about. I don't believe in the bible but al least I have read it and know what's in it.

SMJ is right... they need to read it instead of counting. I guess counting was quicker.

God didn't put them into books he just inspired the words humans put it into books to organize it

What do you mean you know Jesus? Not sure if you heard but he died about 2000 years ago.

rpd2131... This user can claim to know Jesus all they want... but as far as having a Christian attitude, that would be a huge No. Check out their comment to my answer. And Green for you, rpd.

Think of them as 66 Road Apples!

Ohhh, you calling the books of the Bible "road apples" has blown God's mind and made Him cry. Not.

groovy and far out. It's an unexpected plot twist and perhaps conspiracy. Even if it was true there would be no evidence for it like the pope's interior throne room nor would anyone believe it because people simply cannot be fooled by the devil.

The number of books depends on denomination: Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants have different number of books in their respective bibles. The Jews have 24 books. On top of that, 666 has no mystic or eschatological meaning, and some bibles have 616 as the mark of the "beast", i.e., Nero Caesar anyway. So my answer in short: it's meaningless.

666 is not the number of Satan. The wild beast represents mankind's governments. 666 is the number of man. 7 symbolizes perfection in the Bible and 6 to the third degree falls short of perfection.

The number representing the beast used a number/letter system to spell Caesar. 66 would not be similar. Even if it were, the Bible really doesn't contain 66 books. Books such as Kings and Chronicles were split up due to the inability to fit them together on a single scroll. Luke-Acts should likewise be interpreted as a single, 2-volume work.

The Jews count Samuel, Kings, and Chronicles as single books, although they do use the designation 1 Samuel etc. You are right though the splitting is because of the length on the scroll. On the other hand, 2 or 3 books were written on a single scroll the make Isaiah.
