When I did a course on how to read and study I learned that the primary reason a person gives up a book or subject is because he has read past a word that he did not understand or know the definition of. This will make the aria with the misunderstood word seem confusing.
Takes too long. Too much outer stimulation like t.v. and video games. They don't know how. They can't concentrate for more than a few minutes. It's too "boring". Plenty of reasons. All ridiculously stupid.
Some people have NO imagination whatsoever, they need to be force fed the images to understand and follow stories. I like reading, but books on CD are awesome especially when they are read by the person that wrote the story, b-cuz they know where and when to put the emphasis 8)
I've discovered that most people who don't like to read are that way because they've never been introduced to a book that sparks their imagination. Most school reading assignments are booooring and since kids are impressionable they start to believe that all reading is boring. I've turned a half dozen non readers into readers, all off the same book.
It was not instilled as a value when they were kids. Reading is something that has to be motivated by their parents at an early age. Usually the sons/daughters of people that enjoy reading, read. Or, if they don't read, they know the value of it and encourage their kids to read. I was given my first encyclopedia when I was about 7. Today, I have more than 1,200 books. I can also read 2 or 3 books at the concurrently, meaning I don't have to finish one to start another.
I LOVE reading! I'm a bookworm. Some don't like to read, but others love it! I guess you need some imagination to appreciate books. I'm in a whole other world when reading. It's like I'm in the story. Lol!
some people have problems after they read for a short time--15 or 30 minutes--or are dyslexic. Some haven't found the kind of material that will keep their interest. known a couple of teachers with these problems.
