The creationist view is that the world is 6000 years old and that humans came from 2 and then 8 source people. Evolutionist have theorized life began around 3.8 billion years ago and evolved through natural selection and environmental effects over that time period giving us the world we have today. Your claim that there is no evidence of evolution is wrong, there are massive amounts of evidence to support the science of evolution. In the religious community it is recognized by groups such as the Roman Catholic church, the Methodist church, Episcopal church, the Dali Lama, The Muslim sects of Sunni and Shia, and the conference of American Rabbi's. You should put down your bible for a moment, take a break from the ICR and do some study on evolution and then you can find out for yourself.
What's happening is that both creationists and evolutionists are fighting over the same evidence. I think that we'd all agree that we have the same rock layers, the same fossils, the same animals, the same earth, and the same universe (in most cases... there are those few people, though). What's really going on is that we're looking at the same evidence and then adding our own interpretation based on our worldview - the secular worldview, or the worldview from God's Word. What's really going on is that both sides are claiming that their interpretation of the evidence is right - but only one is. Which one is it? That's what the whole entire debate is about. One side will try to convince everyone of their interpretation, while the other side will try to convince everyone of their's. This will keep going on until one side wins over the entire culture, including their opponents.
Science and math have proven that life cannot accidentally come into existence on it's own. Science has proven that we all came genetically from one woman. Science and the fossil record shows that different lifeforms once existed on the earth, but then many suddenly died off, such as the dinosaurs. So even the fossil record does not give evidence to evolution. The animals stayed as they were, and still are today, such as the shark, or they died out. Birds did not evolve from dinosaurs. The dinosaurs simply died out. But then interpretation comes into play, or rather a twisting of the facts. The one woman must have been 100,000 years ago. They have no answer for how life came to be. It just did. And evolution must have happened in sudden spurts, leaving no fossil record to prove that it happened. The evidence is there, but the facts are being twisted.
Evolution can be witnessed. There's simply far too much evidence. Believing in god requires an act of faith. There's no solid proof. Who's to say that evolution isn't god's programming language for life? No one can answer this question for you. You have to choose for yourself.
Because the term 'evolution' has various meanings. It is true and in another sense, false and unproven (and unprovable). Adaptations within species is observable.
Transformations from one species to another has no clear evidence. Fossil evidence overwhelmingly supports what might be termed 'special creation' and not transitional forms. So, until pigs fly, the second form of evolution (sometimes referred to a Darwinian or macro-evolution), then people will choose their beliefs based on their theology. For atheists who claim no theology they are left with Darwin to rescue them from even the remote possibility of a Creator. One of the apostles of the modern atheist movement (practically a 'religion' in many ways), expressed his faith this way,
"Even if there were no actual evidence in favor of the Darwinian theory ... we would still be justified in preferring it over rival theories [creationism]." Richard Dawkins, The Blind Watchmaker
Once God is rejected, evolution and naturalism must be embraced by faith.
