If torturing a dog is considered animal cruelty, why isn't butchering a cow animal cruelty either?

why not? Both are animals, and I'm sure cows or chickens or goats want to be killed. They feel just as a dog feels. Yet killing and eating a dog is highly frowned upon by the American society. What's the difference? There both living and breathing and feeling. They both are not single-celled organisms. They're both considered somewhat higher-life form. So what's the deal?

A dog isn't eaten.......cows, goats, chickens, etc. are. It's just the way of life......
Besides, torturing an animal is different than quickly killing it to eat it.

If I quickly kill a dog, I will still be in trouble idiot.

Because you don't eat dogs.
Or maybe you do.........but others don't. At least not in the US.
Report as
The fact is, people like you don't have an answer for why you don't eat dogs but eat cows.
Report as
Since the beginning, eating dogs isn't common. Same goes for cats and most other pets.
But on the other hand, people have been eating cows, goats, and chickens, etc. since the beginning.
Report as
I don't think there's anything wrong with eating any animal. People have eaten dogs and ants and we think its weird because its just not something we do in our culture. I'm sure many people in other cultures think things that we eat here is weird.

People need to eat. It would be hard, and would screw with your head if you ate something that you were attached to, like eating a person but to a smaller degree.

Torturing a dog is different than quickly pitting a cow to death. Plus dogs love cows don't

wanttoseeamagictrick: you need to stop thinking as if dogs and cows are different. They're the same as each other, and as humans. If you can eat a cow then why can't you eat a dog?

I don't really understand, I mean scientists are discovering more and more that plants can feel pain and can even scream. (We obviously can't hear it though.) I understand that you want to help animals, I'm only willing to eat certain animals on farms that were raised well, but eating animals is just a natural process.

Society is very strange? Remember as a kid ever hearing girls hating on animals That eat other animals? Then they most likely had a meat glue steak while throwing rocks at innocent wasps.

I was given a tour of a slaughter house once and I will say that it nearly made me a vegetarian. It was terrible. I have often wondered the same things. People think that these animals are stupid and don't know what is going on and die suddenly but that is not the case. They are lined up in a row and they are scared. When a cow dies it screams. Most of the cows try and escape because they are fully aware of what is going on. They actually have alarms that ring when a cow has escaped in a state of panic. The sounds of those cows screaming is haunting. It is quite sickening that it is acceptable. On the other hand, I love the taste of beef...so what can you do about it?

You could only buy beef that has been certified humane. It's a great program that has been endorsed my ASPCA and many other animal welfare programs. It has one great awards and is very reliable. Go here for more: www.certifiedhumane.org

Torturing any animal is frowned on. Yes, we butcher cows, pigs etc. It is also a quick death and there are guidelines that are followed. The general public is not allowed as far as I know to find a random cow and kill it. There is a difference between finding a dog and torturing it and hamburger meat.

For a single meal of yours you are willing to take the life of another BREATHING LIVING ANIMAL, when vegetables are easily available. So why?
Report as
We humans are part of the food chain, but because we have an intelligence we we're able to develop ways to defend ourselves. Our bodies need the protein and the fat from some animal consumption. The slaughter houses follow norms to kill animals without suffering. Torture is a whole different issue.
Report as
Lol let me kill you with a blade, then tell me if you suffered. And protein and fat? All vegetarians are not skimpy or skinny or malnourished. Don't use that excuse, cause there are living examples. Anddddddddd, if we have intelligence, then why can't we face the fact that
a) An acre of farmland that grows crops produces more then an acre of livestock.
b) Many diseases follow meat-eating, "Mad cow", "Raw or uncooked meat disease", "Swine flu". These diseases resulted in 17 million lives lost globally every year.
c) If we are so intelligent, then why can't we avoid killing? If we humans call ourselves educated, with sense and moral instinct far greater then the rest of the inhabiting species on Earth, then we should make the correct decision. If we cannot make life, then why should we take it?
d) Can you jump on a cow, kill it with your bare hands, then start munching away at its flesh? No. Our hands, our teeth, our feet, our stomach, our tongue are all designed as herbivores. We don't lap our tongue to drink like carnivores. So eating meat is going against God's will. If I am correct, in the bible it says "THOU SHALL NOT KILL". Surely that wasn't "thou shall not kill only humans".

I understand your wish to help animals, but plants feel pain, too. Go on this site if you don't believe me: http://www.guardian.co.uk/notesandqueries/query/0,,-83446,00.html I believe life is life, and a plant life is just as important s an animal's life. Buying certified humane products is the best way to help, in my opinion.

I think that eating a dog or any animal is the same. They do everything possible not to hurt the animal when killing it. Death is just a natural thing.

It depends, it could be humane. Look for the certified humane lable. It's a program that has one many awards and is backed up by ASPCA and many other animal protection charities. Go on www.certifiedhumane.org for more. I thought about being vegetarian, too, because even though I believe eating meat is ok, I don't believe putting poor animals in cages where they can barely move and all the other awful things that are done to animals is excusable, but now I only want to buy meat with that lable.
