Why do people think the world will end in 2012?

okay the Bible says the worlds gonna end but it doesn't say when. and the Mayan calendar ends but so what. I just don't see it happening

No one knows when the worlds going to end. There have been these "world ending" theories for centuries now, and look, we're all here still alive and the world has obviously not ended. It's just another hype, it won't be the last one either.

The Mayan calendar does not end. One phase of it ends. The next phase the starts and runs for just over another 2000 years. Anyone who thinks it is going to end is an idiot IMO.

In actuality when you calculate the date it is much different. Mayans worked on a different calendar system and if that isn't enough to throw it off, then not including the leap year is plenty of proof! The so called "doom's day" happened many years ago, at one time I knew the actual date but have since forgotten it. So, congratulations on surviving doom's day!

"Madness of crowds".

There's always someone predicting the end of the world but when you have a specific date, people can share their baseless, unscientific theories. Then the media reports that large number of people share the same belief, and this causes further infection.
