Is anyone here angered that Obama allowed gay marriage?

My father doesn't like his action, but I do....
How about you?

Report as

I am much more upset and flustered that we are now allowing illegal aliens to assimilate into the U.S. At least most gays don't rob, shoot, steal, etc. from others; unlike illegals.
But to really answer the question ... i don't think he's done a good job because he has been duplicitous. But the structure of the job position is not functional ... what other business requires the leader leave after 4 or 8 years, even if successful? How can huge plans be made and actuated in 4 or 8 years? And then to deal with another party (republican) that votes for the party, rather than what is right or best for the most people?

It is entirely possible in this world full of religious poison to get the idea in your head that things the Bible says are true. Only further study can overcome. Which it has, for many of us.

Hey! You have studied enough to overcome some of it. You know it's not imperative to kill your children for disobeying you. Or forcing young women to marry their rapist. You know many of these things that the Bible says are Truth are really horrifically wrong.
Report as
The Bible got some stuff right, don't get me wrong. I think four of the Commandments are mainly secular, and true.
Report as
The only "religious poison" you even need to be concerned about comes from another "holy book", but if I say which one I'll get deleted haha
Report as
That's right Tony. The one you studied from birth simply because it was the one your community overwhelmingly used....That's the one that (so fortunate for you!) is true. You know those Muslims born into Islamic cultures? I guess those people just weren't as SPECIAL as you! How silly of them to follow the Traditional Holy Book for their culture, lol.
Report as
The one I studied from birth? Hahaha you presume a lot don't you?
Report as
Agreed. "Studied" was the wrong word. "Heard from since birth" would've been a far superior phrase to illustrate my point.
Report as
Haha good one, but you know what I meant.

Funny how how you think Muslims are ok for studying their holy book but Christians ate idiots for doing the same, your ire is quite selective. Anyway, what I meant was that Muslims ate commanded to kill non-believers, Christians ate told to love non-believers, one of those two is more of a threat to you than the other.
Report as
Ate ate ate grrrrrrrr three times! Haha
Report as
This cracks me up, I get it from both sides, atheists think I'm a bible thumper and the bible thumpers think I'm an atheist haha that's ok, I'll do battle with both because the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Report as
I do apologize that you are being attacked from all sides. That must suck. Despite it cracking you up...

I'm sure if America and the ask community as a whole was predominantly Muslim, everything would be reversed in your statement:

Funny how you think Christians are ok for studying their holy book but Muslims are (I corrected, it that's ok) idiots for doing the same, your ire is quite selective. Anyway, what I meant was that Christians are commanded to kill the infidels, Muslims are told to love the infidels, one of those two is more of a threat to you than the other. Peace be with you.

You both SAY it. BOTH of you. Regardless of what team you're batting for, YOUR religion is the one that is peaceful, makes sense, and (of course) represents the truth. The OTHER guy's is hateful, only meant to rile their believers up, and is sent from Satan (Iblis?) to misguide humanity.
Report as
Your facetious apology isn't necessary, I think it's fun to do battle with both sides. They at both right on some issues and both wrong on some issues, the difference being that the bible thumpers are usually lot more polite while the atheists are usually hateful and angry.
Report as
Muslims are not told to love infidels, educate yourself on the subject before you stick your foot in your mouth.
Report as
You must simply not know enough Muslims. Heck, I only know personally 3! The U.S. is certainly not the place.
Report as
I'm talking about what their holy book says. Have you read it? Go ahead read it and see what it says they're supposed to do to you.
Report as
Holy Books are notorious for needing to be read with an appropriate mind. I mean, when your God commanded bears to come out of the woods and brutally murder the kids who dared teased that guy for being a baldy, you and other Christian apologists have reasons why that's not horrifying.

I haven't read the Qur'an as often as I have the Bible. (To be honest, only ever online, I've never held a Qur'an....)
Report as
Bears? What? Haha ok man. You're assuming a lot and now I'm assuming you're drunk.
Report as
Not drunk. 2 Kings 2:23-24. They are referred to as "she-bears"...my Bible just says "bears". There are a whole lot of apologetic extras in this Study Bible, and it claims that youths probably meant late teens, but the way they came out of the town to jeer definitely says 8 year old? 9? Yeah, a group of 42 of them, all slaughtered by God guiding gigantic bears to do so.

It also says their mockery represented a generation growing up with increasing contempt for God and His laws. Wow. So that makes it okay. Take out the kids, right?

The third excuse this Study Bible gives for God's horrific act is that -- get this -- Their insult ((of "Go on up, you baldhead!" and that is IT)) targeted not just Elisha's baldness but also God. Also God. "Go on up, you baldhead!" ........"OH, and by that, I mean you AND your God are so pathetic that you couldn't keep your hair!" Really? Really??

But no, Tony, no assumptions.

I believe that a president doesn't need to commit to only one religion since our nation is multi - religious.
If he only satisfies one religion, then other religions may not be so happy about it....
The president can't only pay attention to Christianity ("In God we trust), he should pay attention to others as well. If he commits to only one religion, other people of other religious groups may threaten others.....
When the Constitution was written, Christianity was dominant in the European nations from which America originated from. I'm pretty sure that if the European nations were Muslim, for example, in our Constitution we would have "Allah" written instead of "God."
Therefore, the president doesn't need to commit to Christianity because "In God we trust" was written in the Constitution....

I liked advancement's suggestion that ALL the ideas in the bible be followed instead of shopping for the ones that you like and disregarding the one you don't. But then having slaves and lots and lots of wives, and killing people -- well there are rules about those things. I'm now thinking of the bible people as shoppers. Now I'm thinking Walmart! I need to stop this. It's all ridiculous.

This is the point: what adults do in their homes with consenting adults, especially if it's affectionate, is none of anyone else's business. Heteros and gays do the same things in bed. Just don't think about it. It's rude to project yourself into other lives this way and be judgemental about it. If you don't want anything to do with gay culture, fine, but to suggest that gays should not have equality within your own culture is narrow-minded and uneducated.

I'm not against gay marriage at all. I'm a libertarian, so I don't think the government should control who People marry.

I'm not really angry...I actually support marriage of ANY type...:)...but if he's doing it just to get votes then that is wrong...I guess you can say. I'm kind of in-between and neutral on the whole subject.

Obama doesn't have the power to allow or not allow gay marriage. He simply gave his opinion on the matter. It doesn't change anything!

Obama didn't "allow" gay marriage. Because we live in a democracy, our President cannot make the laws all by himself and however he pleases. Obama merely stated that his personal belief is one that is supportive of gay marriage. It is still illegal in the vast majority of our states. But good for you for thinking for yourself! That is a wonderful thing.

Gays are OK. Homophobe people aren't.

If only gay marriage was the biggest problem we have in America!!!!!! Quite honestly, I don't believe in gay marriage, but I think that each state should have the final say so as to what kind of civil unions will be legal and each church should have a say as to whether they will allow gays to marry in their church. The government has bigger fish to fry than gay marriage.
