Can you have HIV and not spread it?

Okay, so i have a friend and she told me that she has HIV and that she was born with it. I know that is possible. But she says that she is what you call a carrier not a spreader. She says she can't spread it to anyone. I also have a guy friend who says the exact same thing and he says he has a wife and a child who doesnt have it but like i said, he does. I been trying to research to see if its true or not but i cant find what im looking for. Can anyone help?

No way at all. HIV is a virus, and the virus goes from person to person with the right contact. being a carrier is a term used when talking about genetics. to carry the gene on your chromosome that will lead to a disease, but you yourself do not manifest the disease. Please, please, please, if you think you have the virus, get tested! find out for sure. and ALWAYS use a condom

This is possible. Some people have dormant forms of the gene that can't be sexually transmitted. If she was to have children they could either have it active or dormant/I think (could be wrong, going off of my genealogy and disease notes), that hers are more likely to be carriers than spreaders.

HIV is a virus, not a gene
