On a job application what does unit/department mean?

I'm filling out an application and it says "Unit/ Department" on the previous employment part. What does that mean?

They want to know which department you worked in at your previous job, like customer service or maintenance for example. If your previous job didn't have departments just write "not applicable" or "N/A".
