Teens and young adults that usually feel marginalized somehow - by their peers and society in general. Real emo teens usually have self-esteem issues and / or depression - their dress - which is purposely designed to reflect their despair - also identifies others who are in the same emotional pain - they tend to bond at a deep level because they understand the other person's pain all too well. Eventually most come to a new pattern of thinking to rise out of the dark times - whether through clinical or psychological help - healthy parental support - and the support of their friends to raise their self-esteem. Emo teens I've talked to have complained that among their ranks are many "posers" that are there to take advantage of those teens that are highly vulnerable and sensitive.
The modern society looks down on people who are 'emo' as it has become a way of judging a person. People like that are characterized as having long, straight hair with a puff of side bangs. Also, people are characterized this way because many of them wear a lot of makeup and sometimes piercings. While I'm not considered emo for my looks I am criticized for listening to certain music. Society is messed up.
emo the real diffinision not something people think is emo is a label people gave them self for being apathetic and emotional to and extreme (usually misweable) but wallowing in it and not wanting to change they feel misunderstood which is very try they are misunderstood for people who are gothic, they feel like life is not fair to them in specific and it is in fashion for them to cut but only a group NOT ALL they do wear heavy eye makeup and there hair tends to stay at sharp awkward cuts and often glossed there clothes tend to stay in the 70's and earlie 80's
