Because of the 1818 flag act, the American flag could change once again. Movements supporting statehood for Puerto Rico and other areas could result in new states. If and when new states are added to the union, a new star will officially be added to the flag on the following July 4, Independence Day.

Puerto Rico is not going to become a state. It's a totally different country.

Uh ... Puerto Rico is a protectorate of the United States, and thus could become a state. It has even been voted upon by the people of Puerto Rico a few times.

They've been talking about PR becoming a state since WWII, & they've been fighting it every step of the way. They have all the benefits with none of the hassle, & frankly they like it that way, & if you spend a lot of time there you'll see why.

Our flag would look like it does now except with one more star.

It would be easy to add one more star and make alternate rows of 9 and 8 stars. BTW Puerto is part of the U.S.
