Question about pregnant horses?

I was just wondering, after a mare gives birth, how long does it take for her to lose weight and her barrel to return to normal size? Thanks.

This is a variable dependent on the horse and whence it spends it recovery time. On foaling, it takes the horse about 6 weeks to 2 months to recover fully and during this time, it should lose the weight gained if allowed to graze where it can stretch and exercise.

Part of it will depend on whether she and foal are in open pasture or stalled/corralled. If she is contained and allowed to eat at will she may not get belly back to normal.
