Actually, no. The book Nevermore is a part of the Maximum ride series, which in itself has two different sub-series, if you understand that. The first sub-series is called, "The fugitives," where Maximum Ride and her friends are running from everyone. I will list the books below.
The Angel Experiment School's Out Forever Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports
The next part of the series is called, "The protectors." This is where they get more involved in saving the world.
The Final Warning Max Fang Angel
The last book, Nevermore, is not quite grouped into a series like the rest. It is the end of the series. If you're reading it, you need to understand the whole series before you begin. I would start at "The Angel Experiment," But if you won't do even that, at least start with "The Final Warning" before you skip to "Nevermore." Hope this helps!
James Patterson's "Nevermore" is not the third book in a series. It is the eighth book that talks about "The Maximum Ride Adventure". The other books starting from the first one are The Angel Experiment, School's Out-Forever, Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports, The Final Warning, Max, Fang and Angel.
